Poll:
If there were an all-out war between the oranges and apples, which side would prevail and why?

Oranges. They've got that tough skin, and all that acid going for them.. Apples get bruised if you even look at them funny..

Suzie's right, apples are the french of the fruit world. They'd run a mile!

Apples would squash oranges into juice!

Apples definitely, I mean, just one apple each day is enough to keep the doctor/dentist (I forget which one) away so just imagine what an army of them could do to oranges!!!!

This is just daft, lets be realistic, with the impending war between the Tetley Teafolk and homepride flour men - we really need to side up now

On the one hand, the oranges have that vitamin C... Plus citrus acid (fruity chemical weapon). Plus some types of oranges grow much larger than apples, so they've got a slight size advantage. And, as Suzie said, they've got the tough skin (which can be made into orange zest...)
However, the Apples do have the ability to keep doctors away (like Luke said...) And they have an easier time of things (Thus the expression, As easy as Apple pie...)
I know I started this poll, but I've never been able to definatively say which side would win... I usually cop out and say a sneak attack by a commando group of coconuts would win...
For the sake of argument: Oranges?

Look, it's like this..
One bad apple can ruin a battle(rrel)
Plus, even if you DO make it through the orange's tough skin, it's got that cleverly designed containment mechanism, so even while injured it can keep it's structural integrity far better than the apple can.
Plus, the seeds are bigger, so there's an extra source of ammo.
Apples are just an inferior design.

Does anyone else believe in coincidence?
I was flipping through the news tonight when I saw a story from Italy: The war of fruit... Seriously. Every year, a town in Italy re-enact a famous historical uprising against local aristocrates. Everyone in town picks sides, and then run around pelting one another with oranges...
So, at least for the Italians, oranges seems to be the fruit of choice...

funnily enough, a headline in the Mirror yesterday:
"An apple a day rots your teeth away"
apparently new sweeter apple varities are so full of sugar that they are bad for your teeth. dentists say that apple juice is no better than sunny delight or coke. fantastic!
Ewwwww .... I hate apple juice. It leaves a yucky taste in your mouth.

apples.
for a start, what's with a fruit just being named whatever colour it happened to be?
next test - pound an apple with your fist, then an orange.
my tests have proven that an apple maintains its basic shape with up to 85 newtons of force upon it.
this sort of pressure turns an orange to pulp.
i'm not sure if you guys realise, but centuries before italians were fighting with citrus projectiles, the educational institutions had established fruit wars of their own.
after school hours, teachers would releive their stress by pelting each other with fruit.
they initially used watermelons and rockmelons, but the high level of injuries resulted in the enforcement of the "two-fist" rule, in which no projectile could be larger than the size of (you guessed it) two fists.
as such, the teachers of the world resorted to the most obvious choice - the apple.
and that's why students give teachers apples.
because they are the superior fruit.
uh, great.
Usualy I spend my evenings infront of the fire sipping a fine chardonay myself...
or was that special brew? hmmmm... I do forget sometimes
