Hi there,
Ok .. I am really upset at the moment. If someone wrote the following on your website ... how would you respond?
"No offense, actually, scrap that, offense intended absolutely. But really, I don't understand why you have a web log, everything you write about is shallow and men-centric or just lame. Is this really all you think about? Is it all you do?. You're a disgrace to womankind."
I'm new to this whole weblog thing ... but I think that is completely uncool .... what do you guys think?
I mean ... I'm really upset. I know that my website isn't perfect .... but I didn't know that there was some rule that you had to follow about what to write about. I don't have my web log the way I want it yet either .. because I am still learning about templated and all that jazz.
Anyway ... I think I will just get rid of my website all together.

Okay, firstly there isn't any guide about what you're supposed to write on a weblog. You're not breaking any mysterious rules.
Secondly, whoever wrote the above is a dick. Who do they think they are? I think they are just trying to get your attention. I'd just ignore them.
Finally, Don't get rid of your weblog especially if you enjoy doing it.

Oh man, that is a really horrible thing to say to someone...
November, I'd just ignore this idiot - they're not worth listening to.
I'm sure there's heaps of other people that really like your site.
Don't give up on your website - I personally think it's really brave of you to put yourself and your stories out there like that in front of all these people.
So do it if it makes you happy

If you don't believe what you write has intrinsic value to someone, then you shouldn't be writing. There are always critics, especially on the web. If I gave up and scrapped a site every time someone criticised it or me, I'd have given up a long time ago. Instead, everytime someone bugs me, I just yell at them. The only reason to take criticism to heart is if you believe it's true.

ugh, you know my spelling is terrible now. mishmash of US and British english.. some words now NEVER look right to me.. godawful webster.
Thanks. I wished I could ignore the person .. but they didn't even put who they were. I don't belive what they wrote .. it just hurt my feelings that is all. When you are new to something, it is hard to have someone say something like that and not take it personally.

it's as simple as this - people with real skills and real insight come to a suckky website, and either hold their tongue, or tell the webmaster why their site sucks, and how they can fix it.
i'm not saying you have a suckky website - haven't even seen it yet - but i AM saying that this person is a waste of webspace, and if you ask me, they would be better off voicing their dislike of your site by trying to feel superior on someone else's site, and staying the f*ck out of your webspace.
well.. i got a little carried away there...
but i feel pretty strong about this sort of thing - i really don't like that sort of behaviour. negative opinions are fine, but should be voiced in the form of
constructive criticism.

On the, er, bright side, they might not have meant it at all, and were just trolling. :O

November, did you notice how the idiot, no sorry, COWARD, didn't even leave an e-mail address for you to discuss his comments further? I was pretty impressed by the way you restrained yourself from writing an angry tirade back. If that was me I'd have to fight myself to stop myself from replying with an angry outburst! I regularly read your site (and many others too) but I rarely post a comment unless I have something to say. Don't let this person get to you - ignore them. They were probably just looking for a fight or we're being deliberately rude. Remember, it's your weblog - write what you want - if others don't like what you write, who cares? No one forced them to visit your site, did they? :)
Tbank you all for your advice. It was very helpful.
