Its cool if you can blow smoke rings, I'm quite good at it :)

This reminds me of the other week when I was checking into my hotel at Amsterdam airport. The receptionist was sensible and asked me a question that will stick with me for a long time, "Do you like to smoke?". I can only assume that she meant, would I like a smoking room but I took it a little more literal mainly for comic effect, "Yes I do, I like smoking very much!", came my reply. Then she stuck me in a room that was about another 20 minute flight from the bar! Oh well, the rough with the smooth and all that.

I agree 100% with Cal - smoking is downright stupid and definitely NOT cool. Infact, in the case of women, smoking is a real turnoff for me. Smoking is silly, a waste of money and as I said before, downright stupid.

I enjoy smoking, why can people not accept that I have considered the concequences of my actions and have decided that I will carry on. I dont do it because I want to look cool are big and clever, I do it for the simple fact that I enjoy. Like bathing! I dont do it for anyone else, I do it for me, I enjoy being clean.

Smoking is the best thing in the world. Rolling over in the morning and lighting up a beautiful B&H is heaven.

I especially like to have a smoke with a meal. It makes the food taste even better.

You know, it's interesting...

Smokers like to smoke, non-smokers don't like to smoke. It makes sense, no? non-smokers see nothing good in smoking because they never smoke, and smokers see nothing good in not smoking because they're addicted. :-P
Posted by ell, 16:10, 31st July 2002:

Smoking stinks the place out! It smells grim and unattractive!

As for the killing, do what you want to yourself, but it's a sad fact that the vast majority of smokers are UNBELIEVEABLY inconsiderate about where and when they smoke.
Posted by Rosie, 16:13, 31st July 2002:

I agree. I think it would be a good idea if there was a "Smoking Day" set up so that all the non smokers had to smoke at least 10 fags that day. Maybe then this would convert some of them and allow the rest of us to get some peace when we're trying to have a fag.

I was coming back from Hyde Park on Sunday and some Goody-Goody bastard moaned at me for hanging out the window and having a sneaky puff. I was risking life and limb so that I did n't piss the other passengers off. ( us smokers are very considerate you know.)

urgh - i'm not getting into this
Posted by Sul, 16:24, 31st July 2002:

I dont smoke that much so I dont feel the need to have a crafty fag when in a non-smoking environment. I cant smoke in cramped places either as I have a fear of setting people's clothes smouldering. So all in all I think I'm considerate of everyone but myself. And just think of all that extra tax I'm paying!

I paid nearly a fiver for a pack of Bensons the other day, so does this make me a dedicated follower or merely stupid and skint?

wait, i haven't seen you (apart from when we picked up my car) for about 2 years now

yuck, smoking
not my bag thankyou, and being asmatic, not the most comfortable thing for me either.

i have an intense dislike of smoking, but as long as people are conciderate with it, then thats alright. what pisses me off is the people my age who decide they want to smoke because its 'cool'- they dont need to, theyre not that stressed or anything, they just take it up because its 'cool'.
when will they learn???

i hate the fact that when i go to the pub, even for 10 minutes, my clothes stink of cigarrette smoke and I have to wash them before i can wear them again.
i also resent the fact that because i was the only employee of blockbusters that didnt smoke, i didnt get any breaks apart from lunch and was often left on my own while they all went out the back to talk about cars and fit birds and smoke.

i'd never go out with a man that smokes, or eats marmite.. but thats a whole other discussion

heheh...i was just thinking of all these discussion topics on iamcal. They all seem to (usually) start out with a certain idea, and then they progress and evolve into something completely different.

I was wondering what a logical diagram of the progression of an iamcal discussion topic would look like (with original intent, tangents to the original idea, etc). Then we could see who is most constructive and destructive to the thought process on the site. ;-)

smoking to me is a big turn off
but I don't complain when other people smoke, I just ask that the respect the fact that I dont and not to blow it in my direction.

There is no smoking allowed in my house or my car, but that is because it is a matter of respect.

I don't like the way it makes you smell. ewww ...

but anyway ... time to get offline and in the bubble bath.

and i do complain when people smoke because, no matter where i'm sat, it always seems to drift towards my face. dammit i've had 21 years (plus 9 months 'en womb') of my mother smoking and I'm fed up.. not to mention the horribly stunted growth and reduced lung capacity. dammit.

How could I have missed this thread!

Smoking is cool! All the brands look like they haven't changed since the 60's, and you can smoke a pipe, or buy rolling tobacco, and it makes you look cool...

I'm not gonna blow smoke on other people. But I disagree with the pubs thing. Pubs are meant to be smoky. That's what pubs are!

Also Mary Jane is cool.

What do you do in St. Albans then? I think the graffiti thing was a lie. The only graffiti I really know in St. Albans is "Stop the bombing capitalist opportunists" ; "Hardcore will never die!" ; and "I am Destructor!!".

Oh, and the deluge of "My name is Adam Chady" stickers.

Smoking rocks. Because I'm aware that non-smokers have legitimate health concerns and they tend to whine on and on about them, I do my best not to make friends with them ;)

and I live in St Albans too (although I think I'm going to move to London soon)

New legislation is coming in to ban smoking in restaurants before 10pm. Nice one.

If people want to to smoke in restaurants don't get upset when i spray you and your food with air freshener or a nice phlemy cough.
Posted by 100% kitten, 11:00, 23rd June 2003:

cheese burgers are also very bad for you, they certainly don't make you look attractive, the smell and the ineveitable smacking noises offend those around you, the smell & the greasy stains linger, the packaging litters the streets the companies which are profitting from their sales have a blatant disregard for the damage they cause to the environment, farming, the health of the consumers, not to mention the health and safety and general well-being of their workers.

I say ban these vile, destructive things from bars and restaraunts whilst they're about it!

;)
Posted by ilovebeerme, 11:07, 23rd June 2003:

Yeah but if somebody else is eating cheeseburgers next to you you don't smell like shit afterwards and possibly contract fatal diseases do you.

I don't mind it too much but like I said just don't complain if I cough in your face and all over your food. Same thing. It comes from inside my body and might make you ill, same as smoke.
Posted by beargod, 11:09, 23rd June 2003:

Well I don't smake but don't have anything against anyone smoking, but do find it disgusting if they smoke around a non-smoker and cause ill health to the no-smoker. I hate going to pubs and getting covered in it.

I don't think it looks good and try to get my friends to stop smoking
Posted by jlittle, 11:10, 23rd June 2003:

I hope it does get banned in Restaurants

no, you're just destroying the environment...!
and yes they do stink, so much so in fact, that if someone eats one near me I have have to light up a fag to cover the smell up!
Posted by 100% kitten, 11:15, 23rd June 2003:

disclaimer: this is a silly argument, and cheeseburgers were a silly example. I think we should agree to disagree and go about our daily business :)
Posted by beargod, 11:18, 23rd June 2003:

are you saying that burgers are not my daily business? :)
Posted by ilovebeerme, 11:23, 23rd June 2003:

"no, you're just destroying the environment...! "

Well for one I haven't eaten a cheeseburger or any form of burger for over 10 years. Also as an environmental engineer I do more to help the environment than 99% of the people in this country.

I smoked for years and Like i said the habit doesn't bother me much, especially with all the carcinogens in fuel and so on. However, I never ever, even in my 20 a day stage, lit up a ciggarette when others are eating in a restaurant. It's moronic. Like you said we'll have to disagree on it, just prepare yourself for a big phlemgy face cough if by coincidence you ever happen to sit next to me :) .
Posted by Sul, 11:32, 23rd June 2003:

Smoking is banned in some restaurants. Just the other day me and vic were in Burger King and they wouldnt let us smoke. They were actually quite strict about it.
Posted by ilovebeerme, 11:34, 23rd June 2003:

Yeah it's been introduced in many restaurants in Edinburgh and I think is going nation wide. No smoking between 12 and 2 and from 6 to 10. It might just be a local thing though.
Posted by 100% kitten, 11:44, 23rd June 2003:

They do that over here too ILBM, cant smoke in some restaurants until 10. Doesnt bother me really, i just book the table for 9.30.
Posted by beargod, 11:54, 23rd June 2003:

I think it is digusting when you sit down and eat a meal then someone lights up a fag and breaths smoke all over your dinner and makes it taste horrible, but I thought smoking was banned in all fast food joints anyway.

I have never ever smoked so I don't have a good opinion and its only one sided on this matter, so I should be perfect for an argument on this matter :)
Posted by jlittle, 12:11, 23rd June 2003:

I smoked - but didnt light up over a meal, someone did that not too long ago when I was in a restaurant and my 6 month old child was sitting in a child seat right next to them - they commented on him being cute when they entered, and when they sparked up I was very angry.

sometimes they don't ilbm, my grandad smocked over 20 a day easily, and I grew up with him smoking with me in the same room, main reason I always avoided smoking. He died at 70 odd years but not from lung cancer, I think it was a heart attack, but only after he had started giving them up. But I suppose he was a nice man so he was spared :) If I sound all evil to him I apologise and I don't mean to be I loved my grandad
Posted by ilovebeerme, 12:47, 23rd June 2003:

Thats why i said likely and not definitely. And all those ciggies will have contributed a large amount to that heart attack. More people die from smoke related heart disease than smoke related lung disease.

what????

smoking is cool for several reasons,

1. it makes you look cool.

2. it's an act of rebellion

3. people who don't smoke just haven't seen the light yet

4. you can always give up if you don't like it any more

5. you should try everything once, including crack and anal sex and incest

6. it's better than driving red hot knives into yr eyes

7. you can smoke pot

8. there are lots of cool different brands

9. cigarettes, roll-ups, pipes, cigars

10. blowing smoke rings

see, smoking is the best activity ever.
