I am currently involved in the either/or game and i need some new questions, for those of you not familiar with the game, here is a short description and some examples:

You name two things and the other person has to pick which of them they like best, they have to pick one, so if they hate both then they pick the one they hate less.

here are some of the basic starters.

Elvis or the Beatles?
Mcd's or Burger King?
Pepsi or Coke?
Kylie or Brittney?
France or Germany?

Get the idea?

Questions please.

Chris Mk II: I used to work at a web company and people found it very funny to Sing Me; and Kim at me cos my name is Chay, and it sounds a bit like the chorus from "Respectable". ie. Chay Chay Chay Chay Ch Ch Ch Ch Ch Chay Chay. Oh how I laughed, then cried, then burnt down the building.

james - have you got trillian pro? it's a bit ace
Posted by jlittle, 16:14, 19th September 2002:

I would never pay for an IM!!

But yes, I do have trillian Pro, and it is very, very nice. I like the XML facility and the fact that it can check for pop3 now.

Which reminds me - are you going to make an XML reader? :-)
Posted by cal, 16:30, 19th September 2002:

so you're saying you stole trillian pro? shame on you. $25 is hardly much for a program you get so much out of. don't cheat the small time developers
Posted by jlittle, 16:34, 19th September 2002:

It's not cheating the small time developers, it's the fact that they are charging for an IM! IM's have always been free, if Trillian charge, how long will it be before the likes of AOL, ICQ, MSN etc start to charge for their Messangers? Then it won't be just $25, it will be a lot more.
Posted by cal, 16:49, 19th September 2002:

no, that's ridiculous. you ARE stealing. ICQ, AIM, MSN et al make money by using them as a markting tool. trillian is developed by a pair of kids. are you saying you'd steal software i write if it were similar in function but much better than IE, simply because if i charge for it then microsoft will? get real, and stop cheating the developers.
Posted by jlittle, 16:53, 19th September 2002:

Let me get this straight. Are you saying you have never used cracked software in your life?
Posted by cal, 16:55, 19th September 2002:

let me explain - i don't use cracked software from small developers. especially when you could just use trillian .74 for free ffs
Posted by jlittle, 17:00, 19th September 2002:

So you have used cracked software before? Even bigger companies require money coming in to pay for their developers.

You can probally go on the way back machine and check out trillians site when they first launched the program. There is a section asking why Trillian is free - it says something like (and this is competely from memory) "We don't believe in charging for an instant messanger"
Posted by cal, 17:14, 19th September 2002:

i'm a small developer, so i care about small developers. if i used a cracked copy of windows, the developers don't get fired. microsoft is geared up to only expect money from business cutomers. small developers just aren't

and just because they once didn't charge for their product, it doesn't make it right to steal it when they start charging for it.

software piracy is theft. not spending $25 is hardly a way to show gratitude towards a product. stick to the non-pro version, or write your own.
Posted by cal, 17:28, 19th September 2002:

from trillian.cc on web.archive.org:

Trillian is a freeware program. This means that it's yours to try, for free non-commercial use, forever.

and so it is. trillian pro is a seperate product
Posted by jlittle, 17:35, 19th September 2002:

> i'm a small developer, so i care about small >developers. if i used a cracked copy of >windows, the developers don't get fired.

Since when have small developers got fired for people using cracked copies?

> software piracy is theft. not spending $25 is >hardly a way to show gratitude towards a >product.

Some people can't afford to pay $25 for an IM.

> or write your own.

Some people also don't have the ability to write their own.

As you feel so strongly about the matter, and as I do respect your opinions, I have removed the software, however I shall not be using the Free version of Trillian, I'll just use another program that supports all IM networks.
Posted by cal, 17:39, 19th September 2002:

Since when have small developers got fired for people using cracked copies?

if small developers can't afford to operate, they can't afford to operate. it's as simple as that

Some people can't afford to pay $25 for an IM. that's why trillian still has a free version, adn by all accounts always will.
