Here's another new game. Someone chooses a specialist subject, people ask them (fair) questions about it. Whoever asks the wuestion that the specialist can't answer gets to choose their own subject and carry on the game.
Okay? Get it?
Okay, so, I'll go first.
My chosen specialist subject is:
The Alien Films, story, universe in general.
Go!
Ok, easy one, name of the dropship pilot in aliens?
Posted by
Grim..., 10:07, 9th September 2002:
Ferro, which means 'To carry' in Latin.
yup, you are a mastermind

"Nasty face things"? Do you mean the
real life face hugger (6), Ripley's extra-special kind (8), or my ex-girlfriend? (2- while in human form anyway). We can't have inspecific questions on Mastermind! (And everyone's just waiting in the shadows with the "African or European" joke) ;)
What's Newts' real name? (no, not the actors name :P)
Triturus vulgaris
Is the latin name for the smooth newt.

what colour undies (knickers if you want!) was sigorny wearing getting out of cryo-freeze-thingy-me-bob?
How do you spell sigourney?
How many films has James Cameron Made?
Who designed the alien for the films?
How many films have Bill Paxton and Michael Biehn (not sure of spelling) made together?
Name them.
Name 15 of the Marines in the film.
That should keep you going.
Posted by
Grim..., 08:44, 10th September 2002:
Plindoe: Blue / Grey
Chris2:
1) Sigourney (You were right)
2) Lots (This has little to do with my original chosen subject)
3) HR Geiger
4) Once again, this is way off topic, but 1.
5) Aliens
6) And it's tricky to name 15, as there are only 11. Anyway, in order of rank:
Gorman
Apone
Hicks
Dietrich
Ferro
Spunkmeir
Weirzbaski
Frost
Hudson
Vasquez
Drake
2: Call yourself a mastermind
4: Two, they also starred in the legendary "Tombstone"
6: Are you sure about 11, what about all those nameless extras that die strange and painfull deaths?
And you forgot Bishop!
I claim victory.

It has nothing to do with the specialist subject,
The Alien Films, story, universe in general So nah-nah.
It's a bit like being an expert in Shakespears plays, and getting asked 'What did the actor who played Hamlet in 1990 do in 1999?'.
Posted by
Grim..., 10:13, 10th September 2002:
In case you didn't know, Shakespear was a famous play-writing dude.
Oh yes.
I thought the famous play-writing dude was called Shakespeare.
In 1990, Mel Gibson (Famous actor dude) played Hamlet in the film of the same name.
In 1999, Mel Gibson starred in the films "Forever Hollywood" and "Payback"
It seems to me that this quiz involves you answering simple questions, dodging difficult ones and claiming yourself winner by default.
I CLAIM VICTORY!

2) Where was he born?
3) According to Dunbar, how far was Clevinger from death every time he went on a mission?
4) What disease did Heller suffer from which later became the subject of his book "No Laughing Matter"?
1: 1923
2: Brooklyn NY
3: Inches away from death!
4: Guillain-Barre syndrome.

My theme is Joseph Heller's catch 22, not works by Joseph Heller.

Hint: If your going to look the answers up on the web, don't link straight back to this site as the statistic tracking logs the last site you were looking at...
Ah, so you are admitting that going off topic is unfair? And so asking about what else the actors in one of the nine alien-related films did is just a little unreasonable also?
And, um, the answer to the last question was "It was by the same guy.".
P.S.
[COF-HS]Grim...
Bah, rumbled as a mastermind cheat, i concede the chair to anyone who wants it.

what colour are the aliens? And where did they go on holiday last year?
Posted by
Grim..., 15:04, 10th September 2002:
Drone and warrior aliens are black, although slight colour tints can be gained depending on the host.
Aliens like to holiday everywhere, traveling either as 'captured' eggs on starships or in the chest cavity of some unknowing victim.
Oddly enough, I've been asked the holiday question before.

whats the serial number on the fifth round of ammo Frost fires from his Smart Gun?

Ammo doesn't have serial numbers, and Frost doesn't fire a smart gun.
Drake and Vasquez are the smart gun operatives =]

Chris 2 what bullshit you speak! Having worked for five years at Britians finest clay pigeon shooting range I can tell you with the authority of a CPSA qualified referee that ammo in no way has a serial number. What, do they punch it into the case of the caseless ammo, or perhaps get a compass and scratch it into the lead?
Mong =]
I'm bored. My specialist subject is either Monty Python or Apple Computer. Amy questions?

Okay - What - exactly - did the knights that say 'Ni' change their names to?
The Knights who say eee ecky ecky ptang?
Having spent 10 years in the army i obviously know fuck all about ammo either, why dont you look round the rim of the cartridge next time, oh look a batch number.
The Knights who until recently said Ni?
yay, fight fight fight!!, I think ammo usually has a serial no. though checking what the number is would be pretty hard on a fictitious fire fight
pls excuse the typos, a bit tyred
Nah, lets not fight, lets paper scissors stone, ill go first squrrell.

Ammo has a batch number - not a serial number.
However, caseless ammo does not - the number is either on the box or the magazine - and as the mags are all re-usable it would probably be on the box.
Anyway, Frost didn't fire any.
Body count in alien?
Well, the crew consisted of Ash, Dallas, Kane, Parker, Brett, Lambert and Ripely (and Jones the cat). Kane died first when the alien 'birthed'. Ash got flame-throwed to death, Dallas, Parker, Brett and Lambert died when Ripely blew the ship.
But, remember, Ash was a robot, so...
Yeah, hoping you wouldn't remember the fact that it was caseless ammo.

Grim..., 16:00, 16th September 2002:
Um, I'm not quite sure what you mean by the aliens questions, so I'm going to treat them as short essay titles =]
1. Only way to be sure: This was said first by Ripley and then Hicks, both of whom were talking about taking off from LV-426 and then nukeing the planet while they were in orbit. Burke was not happy about this, but, hey, what the hell can he do?
2. Secreted from what: The secretion that the aliens use to hold human bodies to walls and to keep the temperature up is created by worker aliens. Workers (or drones) featured heavily in Aliens, whilst warrior aliens were the scary beings in Alien, Alien3 and A.Res. The easiest way to tell the difference is their heads - warriors are smooth and the workers have divots.
3. Chronological order of deaths (in the film Aliens). Okay dokey, here we gokey. These are the only deaths mentioned or shown in the film...
Russ Jorden - died giving 'birth'.
Anne Jorden - killed by baby alien worker.
Tim Jorden - killed by baby alien worker.
John J Maritime - killed when surgeons removed the baby alien surgically.
Unknown female - died during alien 'birth' on sub-level three.
Frost - killed when the ammo bag exploded.
Wierzbaski - killed when the ammo bag exploded.
Drake - Covered in alien acid.
Spunkmeir - Killed in when Drop-ship 1,
The Anteater, crashed.
Ferro - Killed in drop-ship crash.
Gorman - killed by hand grenade.
Vasquez - killed by hand grenade.
Burke - given a hand grenade by Ripley to kill himself.
Apone, Dietrich, Hudson were killed when the reactor 3 exploded.
Top question! Gave me something to do for five minutes at work =]
Cheers =]
Posted by
Uncle Moc, 16:20, 16th September 2002:
Hmmm... pretty good... Although I thought Burke got killed when he left everyone behind, and Hudson was killed by the alien who comes up through the floor. Didn't Spunkmeyer get killed by an Alien on the DropShip?
I don't actually know for sure. I guess you can then have Hicks and Newt for the lame beginning of Alien 3...
I'm trying to think of some absurdly technical question about Bishop and Hudson and the knife-hand-trick...
I think the dropship was called 'BugStomper' no?
Posted by
Grim..., 17:20, 16th September 2002:
In the book, script and in a deleted scene from the film Ripley finds Burke on her way to rescue Newt, all stuck to the wall and stuff. She hands him a grenade and hurries on.
The aliens didn't kill
any of the marines - not deliberatly. Apone, Hudson and Deitrich were taken away from embryo implantation.
As for Spunkmeir, the alien wouldn't have killed him (see above), and as the dropship was in the air and the ramp was closed it wouldn't have been able to get off the ship with him before it crashed either.
Dropship 2 was called Bugstomper, the one that came down to get them at the end.
Catch-22;
When is right?
Why is Hitler?
Who was that mealy-mouthed old man I used to call Father?
Who is Spain?
Yeah, yeah, I know the time is past. Blame those kids who kicked me off the War thread.
