Title: Myst: The Book of Ti'ana
Author: Rand Miller
Rating: 4/5
It is, obviously, based on the computer game. It is the second in a series of three books, of which
The Book Of Atrus was the first and
The Book Of D'ni is the last.
This book is mainly about Aitrus and Ti'ana, who are Atrus' grandparents (Gehn's parents), and the downfall of the D'ni civilisation. Basically the D'ni are mining their way up to the surface of the Earth to see if anything is there. On the way they a large earthquake hits and wrecks the tunnel (and kills a few people) so they give up on it. On the surface, Anna and her father find a cave which leads to D'ni, and down they go.
It is a fantastically rich book, full of wonderful images of architecture and technology.
For the first half of the book Anna is busy being impressed by all what's going on, and only then does Aitrus 'link' her to another world, and it's the bit you've been waiting for - it doesn't disappoint.
It's only downfall, perhaps, is that it is too short. You could also argue that it doesn't stick to the game plot too well, but who cares? Only the first one was any good.

I must confess to not playing Exile, but I thought the navigation system on Riven was showing it's age.
The pictures were nice, sure.
I dunno - I just think Myst was the best of them - nothing nowadays will hit the same 'wow' factor.

that might be true, but riven had richer graphics and far more fiendish puzzles. the number sytems, the power generator, the animal stones. some of those puzzles were amazingly complex yes subtle

Anyway, the book is still good.
Why not write a book review about
The Exorsist Cal?
