I had an interview for a new job yesterday. I accidently used the phrase tea-bitch. Do you think this will hinder my chances?
Posted by
Grim..., 12:08, 11th October 2002:
A tea-bitch being..?
(I assume it's someone that makes the tea?)
Posted by
Grim..., 12:08, 11th October 2002:
Oh, and 'Yes'.
Posted by
Sul, 12:13, 11th October 2002:
Yes, someone who's role is making every fucker a cup of tea. Usually the new boy or the work experience kid.

what job was the interview for?
Posted by
Sul, 12:19, 11th October 2002:
The title is Senior Systems Management Administrator. (sounds cool huh ;))
Basically I'd be administering software. Making sure it works properly on all desktop builds, fixing if not, packaging it up and then deploying it via Radia to machines.
Less work than I do already. :D
Posted by
Grim..., 12:21, 11th October 2002:
Eh? That's exactly what I do!
I thought I was 'Head Of Software Testing', but now I'm 'Senior Systems Management Administrator'.
Result =]
I think mentioning tea shows a certain lack of ambition when applying for a job with senior in the title.
Unless you are demanding that you get tea bitch as a perk

Sul, 13:46, 11th October 2002:
Fuck, I spoke about making tea at least 3 times.
This I why I need to get out of this job: This is a conversation I held with a user 15 minutes ago.
U: My laptop has hung
ME: We'll have to restart it then.
U: Ok, how do I do that
ME: Well if you hold in the power button for a few seconds it should turn off
U: Which one's that then? The one with the moon in the middle?
ME: No. The one you used to switch it on
Nice,
You might be ok if you are going for the role of Senior Systems Management Administrator for PG Tipps or Typhoo.

How did "tea bitch" come up in the interview?
Posted by
cal, 14:56, 11th October 2002:
I think you need a bit more PMA when going into interviews :D
Posted by
Rosie, 15:03, 11th October 2002:
Oi! Chris Mk II are you calling me a "tea bitch"?
Posted by
Sul, 15:08, 11th October 2002:
They were asking how I would manage to "gel" with my new colleagues if I were put into the position where I was the new member of the team.
I said that whenever you start a new job you'll always be the new boy. The quickest way to bond is to become the tea-bitch.

cal, 15:11, 11th October 2002:
and they didn't like that response? i would have
though mentioning buying cake would have got you the job for sure

Rosie, 15:14, 11th October 2002:
Do you make a good cuppa then Sul?
I like mine white with 2 sugars please. ;-)
Posted by
chris, 15:25, 11th October 2002:
milky tea would be great :D
Posted by
Sul, 15:27, 11th October 2002:
I make a fucking mean cuppa! I personally have the caffeine mug off of thinkgeek; it takes two tea bags and 3 sugars to satisfy it.
They seemed indifferent about my response. Thinking back, its quite strange they understood what it meant! Or perhaps they didnt.

Rosie, 15:28, 11th October 2002:
I am sure you will be fine. If you get called back for a 2nd interview, you should bring your mug.
Posted by
Sul, 15:49, 11th October 2002:
no 2nd interview. Internal job :(
I'd love for them to see my mug

Sul, what are you like in the office? Are you the joker or are you the quiet one who mooches around like a mouse?
Posted by
cal, 16:13, 11th October 2002:
or are you the quiet one who one day cracks and comes into work with a sub-machinegun, filling his unassuming cow-orkers with a lead salad?
Posted by
Rosie, 16:15, 11th October 2002:
?
Posted by
Sul, 16:40, 11th October 2002:
cow-orker? How the fuck do you ork a cow?

Sul, 16:46, 11th October 2002:
I'd have to say I'm the office joker, forwarding on email jokes and making wanted posters of the Aussie pen theives and posting them up on notice boards. I once placed the shutdown command in a colleagues registry so it booted up and shut down automatically when it finished loading all the other services. He had to get his machine rebuilt because he couldnt understand what was going on. I didnt do it as a joke, I just didnt like him.
I was certainly not calling you a tea-bitch rosie, its just that i was speaking of the devil and it woke the voices in my head

We have work experience here at the moment, and I've got three of them under my control. I have named them Matti(a), Matti(b), and Matti(c). Matti(b) is typing this at the moment (hi!). Yesterday I told Matti(a) to go into another office and ring my office phone, just so I could make Matti(b) answer it and take a message.
I rule!
I also make them read my email and, if any of them come with images, to describe them to me because I can't be arsed to open my eyes.
Being Head of Department rocks =]

Heh, I've always called a "tea bitch" a "coffee monkey".
Posted by
Sul, 14:48, 12th October 2002:
*feels stupid now for not recognising cow-orker*
I do remember seeing it before now, prolly in Dilbert.
Posted by
Sul, 14:50, 12th October 2002:
ell: We cant use "Coffee Monkey" because we coined the term "Desk Monkey", so it wouldnt work. Although I like it.
Trainee assistant tea-stirrer's mate is a phrase we used where I used to work to describe monkey tea-bitch type jobs
in 1998, the army initiated a new system where people who had finished basic training but were awaiting the start of their trade training were send on month detatchments to regular working units, they were termed "Soldiers not under training", after a while the name was changed because they were being called Snuts, and some found this offensive, (This being the Army of the New Labour era). What was the name changed to?
Currently Under No Training.
You really couldn't make it up.

OMG! I read that post from my email and in the preview pane It only went up to, "what was hte name changed to?". I thought it was a question and was going to post CUNTS as my response. For some reason I found this an amazing coincidense.
On the other terms for people in menial jobs, I like the term shitboy too: "Oight, shitboy! 2 peices of chicken and chips please"
Personally i prefer "Monkey Bitch"
Posted by
chandler, 15:02, 13th October 2002:
Maybe that should be your new name then Chris
Monkey Bitch
Or Bitch Tits
Still not convinced
Anyway i prefer the term "Boy Boobs"

"hairy man tits" is best, because it sounds slightly like parying mantis when you say it fast
