Hello everyone.

I was driving out of the car park this evening, onto the road. It's dark, raining, I look left, lights coming so I wait, I look right, lights coming so I wait. both sets of cars drive past. I look again. No cars Left. No cars Right. Drive out onto road....Oh there is a car to the right, it appears as if from nowhere. and hits the drivers side door of my car. Not at any great speed. but quite enough to shake me up. I could see a CAR driving towards ME. thats not a good feeling.

We swapped details. She drove off, fine, I dont think I did too much damage, maybe a broken bumper, not sure.

Start my car. (which has superficial damage to the door and wheel arch)...and my car no longer goes right.

So ok if I want to spend forever going around a round-about. but I quite like being able to turn right.

Damn.

So now I need to take my car to a garage god knows how much that will cost to fix. I only have third party cos I'm a student and the fully comp insurance was over a £1000 and my car is/was worth £750.

So. what happens now. Presumably I tell my insurance people about it. she tells hers. and then the cover covers her damage, and I pay for mine.

On which note: anyone got any diagnosis for a car hit on the side, that now wont turn right properly/if at all? And if you have a diagnosis, any idea of how much its going to cost?

Damn. :(

Damn I have just realised I couldnt even go round a roundabout anymore cos I can only go left.

bums

it could just be the wing is digging into the tyre so might be easily fixed, or it might be completly fux0red. the person to ask is grim since he's had alot of 'accidents'

bad luck mate :(

to solve the roundabout dilema, move to the continent.

*get well soon chandler's car*

Hmm, fucked steering and probably a bent chassis to boot, your car is almost certainly a write-off i'll guarantee that it will cost more than 750 to fix, kiss it goodbye.

Did you or her admit blame for the incident?
hopefully not, never, never admit that it was your fault, even when it is blatently obvious that it was. say nothing and let the insurance company sort it out.

If it was her fault, her insurance will provide you with either repairs or the cost of the vehicle. you wont even lose your no-claims, that only goes when your company has to shell out.

If it was your fault, your screwed. 3-rd party will cover her costs and you are car-less. but think of the petrol money you'll save.

"fucked steering and probably a bent chassis to boot, your car is almost certainly a write-off i'll guarantee that it will cost more than 750 to fix"

That really sucks dude.
She didnt lik ehit me very hard or anything. and you CAN steer right, but the steering seems very stiff.

Are you sure it isnt just like the bodywork dented in to the wheel or something?

:( I dont want to hear that my car is writen off.
Posted by chandler, 11:39, 23rd November 2002:

the car hardly looks dented, could it really be that bad. sob :( Aghhhhh. my poor car.
Posted by chandler, 11:41, 23rd November 2002:

she kept trying to make me take resposabilty, even when I was sitting in the car, shaken up. But I didnt. though I think it was my fault.

DAMN
Posted by chandler, 11:42, 23rd November 2002:

also my mum was able to drive it to the work car park, so it cant be THAT fucked can it? :(

I want reassurance damn you.
Posted by Sul, 14:32, 23rd November 2002:

Reassurance? Like:

Its never as bad as you think!
Things can only get better!
Sucks to be you! ;)

seriously, if your mum can drive it it cant be a write off, surely!
Posted by chandler, 16:03, 23rd November 2002:

yeah Sul thats great, apart from the 3rd one.

Well exactly, that's what I'm telling myself. I have myself convinced that they just need to beat the panel back into shape and my car will be fine again.

yes everything's going to be all right

*rocks gently in the corner*

everything's going to be all right

wont find out to monday, bloody garages not working on Sundays, humphh
Posted by MonkeyArmada, 08:59, 25th November 2002:

dude, you got shunted, means its not your fault.
If she wasnt paying attention to the other monkeys on the road how can that be your fault, sounds like a wrong place wrong time thing, she's an accident waiting to happen.

!!!
What?
What I understood, is, quite simply, you pulled out in front of someone. In the eyes of the law, she could be driving five times over the speed limit when she hit you and it would still be your fault.

Cars that drive fine can still be written off - it only takes a small crease in the sub frame and in a head on crash your car would fold up like a Christmas card.

Did either of you say 'Sorry?' when the accident happened? If she did you can use that against her in court as it is an admission of guilt.

And finally - Cal: the person to ask is grim since he's had alot of 'accidents'

Um... Never had one in my life - car to expand that?
Posted by ilovebeerme, 09:13, 25th November 2002:

Yeah she might well be in the wrong here. Alot harder to disprove you were going a bit too fast than t is to prove you didnt turn out into a stream of oncoming traffic.

I dont know. Hope your car survives.

On the bright side if it's fucked you can get a pirate ship :)
Posted by ilovebeerme, 09:14, 25th November 2002:

Yeah grim is probally right. I'm a moron dont listen to me.
Posted by Sul, 09:28, 25th November 2002:

bollocks! She was driving an invisible car, she should've been more careful!
Posted by Victor Menendez, 09:48, 25th November 2002:

Grim..., 09:10 25 November 2002: Um... Never had one in my life - car to expand that?

bad spelling or terrible pun? you decide!
Posted by MonkeyArmada, 10:23, 25th November 2002:

All I am saying is that it may be worth arguing the point. I dont think that 'he pulled out on me' is a good excuse for shunting another car.
what car do you drive ?
Posted by chandler, 11:26, 25th November 2002:

Grim... yeah im sure you're right.

"What I understood, is, quite simply, you pulled out in front of someone."

Well yes, not pulled out so much as edged out, and yes, I didnt see her coming. mind you it took her a long time to notice me and brake (well it seemed like a long time.)

"Did either of you say 'Sorry?' when the accident happened? If she did you can use that against her in court as it is an admission of guilt"

I dont think so. i was a bit shaken up, so cant remember. she kept trying to get me to accept liability, but I kept saying no, cos I dont think you are supposed to do that.

ilovebeerme: it wasnt a stream of traffic, I had waited for 5 minutes for cars from both directions, but then it seemed clear, i couldnt see anything coming either way.

monkeyarmada: its a K reg Fiat Cinquecento. only cost £750. but I cant afford another one.

"In the eyes of the law, she could be driving five times over the speed limit when she hit you and it would still be your fault."

I dont think that bit is true, if she was doing 30x5 MPH so 150 miles an hour, then it wouldnt be my fault cos she would have appeared as iff from nowhere on that little road.

Im sure my insurance will oay fro her claim, and then I will have to sort mine by myself, so thats why I hope it isnt a write off.

I'm sorry to hear about your car and I hope that you are ok.

If you lived here in the states I could have it taken care of for you. My honey does Auto-Body work and does a lot of side jobs.

"Um... Never had one in my life - care to expand that?"

ok, well you have more experience of cars dying than most of us here ;)

Chandler - get someone to steal it and then blow it up over the park or somewhere. ( only if you have third party, fire and theft).

You can get the insurance money then mate.

:-)
Posted by chandler, 22:23, 25th November 2002:

Thanks Nov! I guess bringing it to the states might cost more than its worth :)

And Rosie, thats almost a good idea. But I think I had better let the garage have a look first!
