at the moment i have 7 servers in my room:

anna
carrot
buttons
jake
mumble
cake
igloo

the things is, i'd like a better naming scheme. it has to have at least 20 names, most of which are quite short (8 letters or less) and easily spellable. anyone have any suggestions?

I'm working with a client at the moment who uses Neighbours characters for their servers.

They already have Madge, Harold, Helen and Daphne.
Their load balancer is appropriately named Bouncer.

Oooooo go for star trek. You could have spock, kirk, odo, picard, data (lol), and so on.

Yeah! Choose the geeky star trek option.

That reminds me of when a friend saw a poster in Leicester for a gig by the band "Ten Benson".

"Bunch of fags", he said.

I tried not to laugh, but i did.

Posted by arsepuppy, 14:17, 27th November 2002:

Posted by arsepuppy, 14:53, 27th November 2002:

I always thought that 'Henry's Cat' was a shit name for a cat. Imagine calling it in for its dinner...

"Henry's Cat! Din-dins!"

You'd feel a right nana doing that.

Why couldn't he have a proper cats name, like "Tesco"?
Posted by chandler, 14:53, 27th November 2002:

Ariel

He is a cat belonging to a person called Henry. hence the name. No we never meet Henry, not find out why he couldnt be bothered to give his cat a name.
Posted by arsepuppy, 15:01, 27th November 2002:

Yeah, but, bloody hell, "Henry's Cat"? Henry (If that was his real name) might as well have named the cat "System.out.println("cat");" or something.

Still, Henry's Cat ROCKED.
Posted by chandler, 15:07, 27th November 2002:

I imagine that henry would have just called him "Cat" and others would have refered to him as "Henry's Cat" as in "Have you seen Henry's Cat", In the same way that Chinese food, in China is just called Food.

Yes Henry's Cat rocked
The scripts were bizarre,
The animation minimal to say the least,
but it was better than a 1000 pokemons.

I met Bob Godfrey (the guy whose studio made it, and who did the voices) and he is the man.
Posted by arsepuppy, 15:09, 27th November 2002:

Shivaun Cleopatra (sister)
Thalia Diana (sister)
Hira Aphrodite (niece type-thing)

We really do have some silly names. And I didnt make them up either.

I'm the only one with a normal name really :(
Posted by chandler, 15:32, 27th November 2002:

Arsepuppy is a bit of a cruel name to give a kid I think.

And Cal, yes obviously Flounder, Scuttle, Flotsam and Jetsam would be for your favourite servers.
Posted by chandler, 15:39, 27th November 2002:

Wow, arse puppy is it spelt Shivaun, wow thats a cooler spelling than Siobhan
Posted by arsepuppy, 15:42, 27th November 2002:

Disney charactors really is the only way forward.
Start with the seven dwarves. Sleepy, Happy, Grumpy, Bashfull, Doc, Sneezy and The other one. Then move on to a different movie. Pongo and Petra (101 Dalmations). Lady and Tramp? The list goes on.

you are soooo unsmurfy, redmaiden.

Cal: the best set of server names i've ever heard of are major disasters - titanic, hindenburg, etc etc.
sure, it ain't optimistic, heck, it ain't even tactful, but who would get sick of saying "the titanic's gone down - again."

other alternative themes:
- pizza names
- fav bands (i think this would be a good one 4 u cal!)
- different species
- colours
- fav actors (spacey, norton, freeman, hopkins... see? cool server names!)
- all of monty python's different words for 'that part' of the male anatomy.
Posted by Sul, 00:58, 29th November 2002:

I love the whole disasters thing. I'm going to suggest that at work. I'm pretty sure our servers wont work without that little carrot dangling infornt of them. Either that or they were built by Tiny.

That's pretty much the same thing actually

Hey talking of Music and Midi, if anyone has or knows anyone who has one of those Yamaha Wind Synths (the ones that you play like a sax or clarinet but it converts to midi) and wants to get rid of it then let me know cos those things look so cool, and I can play the clarinet a bit and it would rock.
