Poll:

  • Stella Artois
  • Carlsberg Export
  • Carling
  • Fosters
  • Staropramen
  • Budweiser Budvar
  • Pilsner Urqell
  • Kronenberg
  • Grolsch
  • Carlsberg
Before anyone asks, I reason haven't included any ales, beers, stouts etc is because my first pint of choice is lager. I do enjoy a fine pint of Guinness but tend not to be an ale or beer man.

Being a strong continental lager man, I am stuck between voting for Carlsberg Export, Staropramen, and Budvar. Isn't that the beauty of pubs and drinking, that you have a choice.

I think I might just vote for all three.

No Red Stripe.
Pfft - Lager n00b.
Posted by nibbler, 13:40, 8th January 2003:

I have never been in a pub that sells Red Stripe on draught.

I haven't heard of any of those beers. I drink Rolling Rock.

Nibbler - try any Charles Wells pub, anywhere.

Nov - you haven't heard of Budweiser?

Calsberg Export runs a close second to the Mighty Stella.

I'm sure she's heard of budweiser grim but budvar is completely different. Lager n00b indeed :p

I agree with Chris2; Stella first, Carlsberg Export second. Red Stripe has too sweet a taste for me, can only be drunk in small quantities.

Kranky Kronenbourg gives me massive hangovers. Carling is too metalic. Fosters = pisswater.

dont drink 'british' budweiser, because whilst its brewed in the uk, they import their grain and consequently dont support british farming... bastards... (sorry my friend is a farmers son, we're all banned from drinking budweiser)

They must put something nasty in bud coz whenever i used to drink it i turned into a right physco.

is that a type of dyslexic violent person?
Posted by November Eclectica, 15:53, 8th January 2003:

Grim- Sul is correct, I have heard of Budwiser, but not the type mentioned.
Posted by Grim..., 15:55, 8th January 2003:

My apologies are huge - however it's is more to do with my lack of reading skills than the beer mentioned.

And why Budvar on the list and not plain old bud?

Jeff - no-one really supports British farming any more - I guess we should just get used to it =[

I had a look at the Charles Well website and they only have pubs in the south of England. So until the next time I visit London, I can't pass comment on Red Stripe on draught. (Although I did work in London for four years and never remember seeing red Stripe on draught).

As for Budweiser v Budweiser Budvar, Budvar is by far the better pint.

As for Stella I agree that it is a mighty fine pint but because so many places sell it as their only strong continental, I am far too used to drinking it and it takes a LOT of it to get me pissed. (I am about 17/18 stone and drink lager like a baby at the nipple).

SOMEONE VOTED FOR DEVIL GROLSCH!
Posted by studlywonder, 13:46, 9th January 2003:

The Beacon in Tunbridge Wells does Red Stripe on draught. Although I can't help but notice the neglect of Orangeboom and Hurlemanns. Both of which are supremem lagers!

Budwieser is actually brewed to have no taste. The company invested millions researching the blandist most unchallanging flavour possible so as to reach the biggest market.

Would choose Staropramen but only if all the ale and beer was missing ;)

Um - is that how you spell draught?
Posted by Victor Menendez, 16:00, 9th January 2003:

yep.
Posted by Sul, 10:10, 16th January 2003:

Blue 'Boom is indeed one of the nicest lagers available as is Hurlemanns. Its just a pity that the places that sell it are so few and far between in London. Still Stella though.

there is a newish lager on tap at the pub at the end of my street, carling extra cold, it is the king of all draught lagers
Posted by RUSS, 12:01, 10th February 2003:

isn't hurlemanns widely available in nearly every curry house or is that something else?
Posted by Sul, 12:08, 10th February 2003:

I think you may be thinking of something else, Heinekken?. I for one have never seen it in a curry house.
Posted by cal, 13:13, 10th February 2003:

me neither, and i frequent curry houses

Yeah, but you don't drink...
