can't anyone see somthing is beginning here?

Pah! It's the start of nothing - the USA would wipe the floor with North Korea and they know it. In fact, the USA is perfectly capable of fighting two wars at the same time if necessary. Besides, if they were to go to war you can bet the UK (and probably other nations, too) would be fighting along side the USA, so it really would be no contest.

I wouldn't worry too much about it though, North Korea is just mouthing off as usual - they really don't have the balls to back their war threats with action. Full-scale war against the USA would be suicide - and a pre-emptive strike by North Korea would be condemned by the world.

but a pre-emtive strike by us is acceptable?

good point

Indeed it is, Chay. But I wasn't implying a pre-emptive strike by us was acceptable in the first place.

sorry, it is all a bit scary though.

it's still scary and korea might just send something pointy towards the US

gary: where do your "facts" about the strength of the US army come from?

"But Mr Rumsfeld is well aware that the post-cold war US forces - already stretched by policing work in Afghanistan and the deployment for Iraq - are not necessarily capable of fighting and decisively winning two major conflicts at the same time. Instead, the US is likely to wait for the dust to settle in Iraq, before turning on North Korea, and Pyongyang is readying itself for that moment. "

Hmm... that quote looks like it's written by a Guardian reporter, Cal - need I say any more? Here it is from the man himself:

"If necessary, Rumsfeld said, the U.S. military was perfectly capable of fighting both North Korea and Iraq simultaneously. "We are capable of fighting two major regional conflicts," Rumsfeld told a Pentagon briefing. "We're capable of winning decisively in one and swiftly defeating in the case of the other. And let there be no doubt about it."

And the report it came from (though some might argue it's a biased news source):

And yea, the prophet victor announced that the days shall number thirty by two until the day of resurrection by twin matts, and the world will once more be gripped by uneccessary pessimism and Guardian-biased viewpoints. Heed these words of prophecy and 'can i get an amen?'

North Korea have a very capable military and can cause problems for the international community. the eu will have no suport for the US or UK following their action regarding iraq. Russia and other post communist countries will have no support and may well aid the Korean war effort.
A Korean war would be veyr messy, it's no Iraq.

It hasn't started yet, mate!

And do you mean the UN not the EU?
