what did your banner say?
Posted by
Gary, 00:32, 16th February 2003:
Yes Cal, in fact, I have quite a few reasons why. But, in light of previous "sensitive" topics on this site, there's no way I'm prepared to discuss those reasons here, and then watch as people on this site use them as an excuse to jump on me. Besides, I really don't have the time to sit here and defend my views against those who I'd inevitably upset – and I'm sure you wouldn't want me to either.
Posted by
cal, 01:34, 16th February 2003:
you're saying you wouldn't post your views because you don't want to have to defend them? or because you think other people's views are so unimportnat that they are unecessary? you seem to have alot of trouble when people critisim your viewpoints - is that because you can't justify them, because you can't understand other peoples or because you take it personally?
i'm genuinely interested here - why don't you want to start an argument? isn't it good that we all have strongly held beliefs, however different or weird?
hmm. it is late. not a good time to be thinking about such things.
Posted by
Gary, 02:01, 16th February 2003:
There's no use trying to provoke me, Cal - and that is blatantly what you've just tried to do throughout that entire post. I won't rise to it. I've made my reasons for not posting my views on this particular subject crystal clear, so I'll keep them to myself, at least on this site any way.

cal, 12:25, 16th February 2003:

Redmaiden, 13:32, 16th February 2003:
just because you may have differing views to some of the people is no reason to hide them. It is possible to have a discussion about them. Nobody is right or wrong about the subject of war and I think it is healthy to talk about them no matter how extreme.

I was on the march, it was crazy, although it wasn't really a march - more like a mass shuffle. It was so slow!

Thanks, Chay. I wasn't specifically referring to the previous discussions we had on Iraq and on fox hunting, when I said people on this site would use them as an excuse to jump on me, though. What I should have said is that it is impossible to discuss such things (well, on this site at least) without it all descending into chaos and name calling - examples of which include our fox hunting debate and Iraq.
just because you may have differing views to some of the people is no reason to hide them.
I'm not hiding them; I'm choosing to keep them to myself in light of past discussions. With respect Emma, I don't think you were around back when those discussions took place (though I could be wrong) - do a search for the Iraq and fox hunting discussions on this site, and you'll see what I mean.

How can you write that and then claim to not want to post your views? crazy man. and the reason people always jump on you is because your tone is always so aloof and argumentative, like you want a response but then you cant handle it...
but thats just my opinion, i'm rubbish at arguing...

good gawd!
I went on the march, funniest thing i've done in years, some legendary banners, including
'War is silly!'
'Iranians against fundamentalism!'
'Socialists against war and terrorism!'
Halfway round the route i got bored and turned it into a march/pub-crawl, then i got bored and remembered i am a capitalist running dog so i had a burger king and went shopping along the route, by the time i got to green park i was loaded down with shopping so i went home and watched the rugby instead.
Fear not though gary, when i have a bit of time i will take up the pro-war baton and debate for you.

The best banner was "Down with this sort of thing"
Very Ted
I also witnessed the first casualty of the war as a well-dressed well-spoken woman with a 'Daily Mirror' banner fell off the kerb and hurt her knee. i giggled all the way round westminster.
Right, time to argue.
Lets go ahead with the war.
One of many reasons, OPEC are squeezing the life out of the west with their ruthless control of oil production. Under the guise of a humanitarian 'regime change' we can set up a puppet democracy and conduct a much more favorable price on the barrel
VM, is spot on there I think.
Exactly, its like when you are playing civilization 3 and you realise you don't control any oil, do keep paying the zulu's 2000 gold every 20 turns plus giving them loads of free technologies or do you send in the boys?

Sul, 15:21, 17th February 2003:

Hello!!
Well, what I want to know is why were people holding up banners that said " make tea not war"? Surely that doesn't make sense. I dont under stand that shouldn't it be " make love not war"?
PS: dont read this to closely as I have a skinking cold and you might catch my germs.
Posted by
chandler, 16:41, 17th February 2003:
i think Make Tea not War means that we as british people, famous for our tea. should be minding our own business and making a nice cup of tea rather than starting a war along with our Coke drinking US buddies.
Posted by
Sul, 16:41, 17th February 2003:
Would you want to make love to Saddam Hussain? I know I'd rather have a cup of tea with him.

My nose is all red and I look like a glue sniffer. Anyone know any good cold remedies?
Posted by
Redmaiden, 19:08, 17th February 2003:
Rosie: take zinc (scientifically proven to cut colds by half - allegedly), sniff lemon essential oil, eat garlic cloves (you have probably lost your sense of taste anyway), stay in bed and drink plenty of water!
Posted by
Gary, 19:49, 17th February 2003:
I know some good cold remedies too, Rosie - but I won't post them here just in case my tone comes across as "aloof and argumentative". Sorry. :(

here in sydney, there was a guy in a dentist outfit, waving a sign that said:
"Fight Plaque, Not Iraq"

gary: congratulations, through your ellipsis, you've still managed to come across as aloof and argumentative.
