i liked the blue background that it used to have. that was easy on they eyes. not this WHITE. agghhh. I've swtiched to the beta style one. but that is still too grey and white

I generally like this version better than others. In fact, I've only got two comments to make (which, if you know me, is hardly anything).

First, you need to get yourself a logo. Something recognizable, something that says "I *AM* Cal." Right?

Second, I like the tabs. The only thing I'm going to complain about is the fact that the search box is always there. For instance, look at www.iamcal.com/about.php. Instead of having that gray box that says "Choose a page:", you should have those four links up top in place of the search. That just seems like a more logical presentation of the data.

But good job overall.

matt and james: perhaps the sub navigation should live up there. after all, it only appears on a couple of deeper pages (contact and about), but then again, consistency is important and other things like "post new message" would probably belong there too.

if i did do it, it would be in addition to the search box. it's too confusing to remove it for a small number of pages.
