I cut the bloke up, I admit that, oh and I gestured to him that he was a wanker. Does that give him an excuse to try and force me off the road and get out of his car and threaten to break my nose?.
I am left amused by the whole affair.
Monkey..Did the guy actually threaten to break your nose?
yeah, I quote, "call me a wanker again and I'll break your nose"
You should have replied "What will you do if i call you a cocksucker?"
He was kinda red, you know, blood vessels popping out. Too much caffine. In a shit nissan bluebird.
A cock sucker all the same.

Grim..., 13:33, 25th February 2003:
Yes, he had every right to do that.
Cutting him up then calling him a wanker was a challenge on your part.
He took you up on it, and you wimped out.
He won.
Grim, you are talking bollocks.
have you ever been cut up?
did you feel it neccecary to force the offender of the road?
and then threaten bodily harm?
Dont think I wimped out there either, just didnt escelate an already ridiculus situation. End of the day we both look like cunt and no one won anything.

Grim..., 14:12, 25th February 2003:
Of course I'm not talking bollocks.
Let's play the hypothetical game.
Instead of being on the road, let's be in the pub.
I walk along, and you walk in front of me, making me stop quickly, possibly causing beer spillage.
I would expect, perhaps, an 'Excuse me', or maybe a 'Sorry Mate'.
If, however, you called me a wanker, then I would be forced to retaliate.
Just because you are driving along in your car and think 'Ooh, he can't get me, I can play at being big' and your plan backfired, doesn't mean it's wrong if the guy retaliates. In theory, all we can assume is that that is exactly what you wanted to happen.
Like I said, you challenged him, he took you up on that, and somehow that makes him the big villain.
I think not.
I would have laughed at you and maybe nodded with a thumbs up :)
For possibly the first time ever, i'm on grim's side on this one.
If i was driving along and you carved me up and when i hit the horn you gave me the wanker sign, i'd be tempted to give you a quick poke in the eye as well.

Yup, in a rare once in a life time matter... I agree with both ends of lifes spectrum... Vicky and Grim.
Grim more though...
Hypothetical bollocks, this is real life and it happened.
My plan at playing big, was nothing of the sort, I saw a gap in the traffic and went for it. He then trys to force me off the road and then I call him a wanker. etc etc.
My plan was to get to work this morning, not orchistrate the little confrontational scenario you seem to have dreamed up. Yes it was caused by my less thatn conciderate behaviour, its the reaction that it provoked that shocks me. Frankly its fucking macho stupidity.

Hang on Monkey, YOU said
I cut the bloke up, oh and I called him a wanker.
The thing with the pub was my way of trying to tell you that just because you are in a car it doesn't make any difference to the way you treat people.
And I agree with Gary - this thread is causing many rare moments :o)

FUCKING HELL! :)
Yeah, kick his fucking ass MA, that'll teach him to be a brainless fucking idiot!
Sorry Grim,
Your right with the car and pub thing but there is a whole personal space issue with a car.
I think that the point to this thread is, why does it take so little for people to resort to violence these days?.
I won't resort to violence for any reason unless really, really pushed, being called a wanker is no reason at all, maybe I expected too much from my fellow commuters.
The initial cutting up incident was a choice I made from the avalible options to me.
1. Cut up somone.
2. Sit in traffic at the end of a busy slip road.
Option one seemed the less dangerous choice to me.
Still I will prolly meet him tomorrow morning......
Yeah jump on him and smash his skull with a tyre iron! Then eat his feet.

In this kind of situation, pause, count to three and ask yourself "What would Conan the Barbarian do in this situation?" then take the appropriate action.
Or just stare at the person out your window...turn up the music and sit there boogying.
Lick the glass and make obscene hand gestures...no wait...

I agree with Grim and Vick on this one. You were the one to cut him off and you called him a name or suggested one.
If someone did that to me I would have acted in the same manner as he did. You cut him off, so he reacted in a bad way.
Road Rage is every where and it doesn't take much to upset people these days.
Anyways, I can see both points and I am sure that all of us have been in the same situation at one point.
Have you never gotten upset or reacted when someone did something like cutting you off on the road?
Posted by
jeffld, 19:48, 25th February 2003:
Road rage is very common. I've seen it many times. The worst drivers I have ever seen are usually people driving cars with dealer license plates! You know the plates that car dealers use because they can put them on any car on their lot! Those damned car porters are probably hopped up on hemp or something... (ok, time to get off of soap box) I'm getting all raged up just thinking about tit.
Nov, I called him a wanker after he tried to force me off the road.
And no, I don't react like that to people cutting me up, its a fact of life, shit happens, deal with it, life is to short to be annoyed by wankers like me driving badly.
Or alternatively, your life will be shortened by driving badly.
nah, prolly not, my life will be cut short by a rampaging hermaphrodite camel, in bolivia in 2006. I have seen this in a vision.
Am I wrong in thinking commuting to work is a race? I mean you score points for going fast.
Anyone got points on their licence?
Mine is clean and has been for the six years I have been driving.

I only have a provisional - and haven't even been out on a lesson since last August. Suffering a severe lack of motivation on the learning-to-drive front...
I have an excellent driving record. I like to drive fast also and I do enjoy a good race, but it needs to be done somewhere safe.
Nov, do you own a fast car?
Posted by
Grim..., 13:33, 26th February 2003:
I had 4, I think, but that was ages ago.
Nov - I'll give you a race =]
Grim..how did you get 4? Must have been something serious as they are handed out in 3's. Unless it is different in engaland.
FL: I have a 98 Ford Contour and she has a European Motor in her, so she has some spunk.
She is fast enough for me, cause if I had anything faster, I would kill myself.
I am going to be having some work done on her soon to help with that spunk.
Grim: You couldn't handle me. *smile*
Sounds like you've got enough spunk without grim's help.
yeah, im not used to the word spunk being used in connection with a car.

I went out with a bloke once, and I was giving him a hand job in the back of his car and his spunk went flying off somewhere. we looked for it everywhere - but couldn't find it. nxt morning he finds the spunk.... frozen to the back windscreen!! ERRGGGGhh!
Hurray thats the rosie i know!

hahahahahaha .....
Such a naughty girl Rosie. But aye, that is why we love you so.

yes, fast would have been much better but then Rosie wouldnt have told us her colourful story.

Nov - What sort of 'fast' does your car do? Does it, for instance, do about 155mph like mine did last week?
I got her to about 110 once, but we have a lot of traffic here.
Slightly too fast dont you think? I am big believer in not driving fast.
There wasn't anyone around when I did it. I wouldn't do that if there were other people on the road.

I remember Foghorn Leghorn's face when I drove back from Edinburgh to Glasgow after a stag night in Edinburgh, in a Golf GTI purring along at 126mph.
Not that I condone driving fast but when a motorway is empty and you have a nice car at hand, then the speed gene does tend to take over.
I love speed, it turns me on.
Posted by
Grim..., 20:00, 27th February 2003:
110 is casual cruising speed in this country now - you need to come and visit.
If I could afford it I would be there in a heart beat. My friend Mike is heading over to London tonight. His parents are living there.
So, maybe I can come over to visit on his next trip. *wishful thinking*

Now thats scary. and nothing like my personal experience.
Posted by
jlittle, 06:54, 28th February 2003:
I wouldn't say 110 is casual crusing speed! The % of cars that can actually get that fast isn't that high (My brand new Clio can *just* get to 110/115!)
I'd say 90mph is casual crusing speed on a motoroway, and 40mph on a normal road.
Posted by
Grim..., 08:38, 28th February 2003:
I guess it depends on you car - obviously little 1.1 hatch-backs might struggle, but cars that can do it tend to get into packs on the motorway and trundle along at 100-120 ish.
And for anyone that says we should be going 70, I'd like to remind them that the speed limit is based on the stopping power of a Ford Anglia, not a Rover with fully cut and vented racing discs and ABS =]
Posted by
RUSS, 08:41, 28th February 2003:
it is still gonna take an age to stop though!
not that i am totally against havin' it on a motorway but i dont think that is a very good argument
Yeah but what your relying on is a rover master cylider, your life in your hands.... : o
Posted by
Grim..., 13:34, 28th February 2003:
A modern car travelling at 100 mph stops in the same distance as the Anglia did at 40.
Think of all the difference in tyres, brakes, handling, etc.
So it's safer to drive my car at a ton than it is to drive an Anglia at 50 =]
I like that.
