I voted yes, I was undecided until I listened to an Iraq bloke on the radio the other day.

He explained how his uncle had dared to speak up about Sadam, within hours, Sadam's 'guards' were their. They raped his aunt in front of the husband and her 2 year old daughter, they then burnt the aunt and her 2 year old daughter to death, before shooting the uncle.

This is just one case, I don't see an alternative to getting the man, who is oviously evil, out of the country. He deserves to die, no, infact, he deserves a lot worse.

I just hope that there will not be lots of innocent deaths, but i'd say being killed by a bomb is nothing like being tortured by his evil army.

"i'd say being killed by a bomb is nothing like being tortured by his evil army."

You are still dead either way. I bet a dead Iraqi wouldn't be thinking "oh well at least I was murdered by an american/brit rather than by Saddam."

I was againest this war when it first came about, but after learning about saddams rape rooms and torture chambers i think that we have to help the people of iraq. its 2003 for christ sakes! People shouldn't have to live in fear. Its about time someone stood up to that evil bastard saddam. I am not too sure it was a good idea to go againest the UN.

I feel sorry for the men and women who are fighting the war. And I feel for their families.

they shouldn't have joined the fucking army if they didn't want to fight. They should have gotten a proper job instead.

the people fighting in the war on the americans/british side are people that joint the forces to do just this sort of thing and will be loving it.
there's no point feeling sorry for them.

Thats a very western attitude to that Rosie "its 2003 for christ sakes!". I know it seems odd for us in the West that people have to live like that but that is what some countries, not just Iraq, are like, that happens in alot of countries, whether we like it or not.

they shouldn't have joined the fucking army if they didn't want to fight. They should have gotten a proper job instead.

Where I come from (a predominately pike..... err I mean working class area) there are fuck all jobs. Everyone ends up either in the Army, on a building side or on the dole. Very few people get the chance to escape this cycle. There are no "proper jobs". How very Daily Mail of you Chay.
Posted by Victor Menendez, 14:21, 21st March 2003:

How's the army not a 'proper' job chay?

The forces people won't be 'loving it', it's not much fun, it is however the job they took and the job they are payed to do and they will do it as well and as professionally as they always do when they are called upon. its only because of these people that you are free to go on pathetic stop the war marches when the war is on and force thousands of policemen and women to have to babysit you instead of doing any number of other tasks, and its the sacrifices the forces make that allow you to spout the 'war is always wrong and anyway its illegal' theories that have been doing the rounds in recent weeks.

Beargod: It maybe a very "western" way of thinking about it, and i am fully aware that many countries have similair problems. But how is the world going to be made into a better place if people like saddam are not stopped? I don't think anyone should be totured or raped and I don't think that is a "western" way of thinking. No-one should tolerate this kind of abuse - whether they live in the west or not.

"its only because of these people that you are free to go on pathetic stop the war marches"

Bollox!

The army is a job for testosterone fueled wankers. No GCSEs? Join the army! Meet interesting people, and then kill them.

Still you have a point, it keeps the pikeys off the streets. Though there are plenty of other things they could do rather than join the army. Learning to read and write would be a good start.

Like i said before, If we get rid of Suddam, the Americans will put another evil dictator in his place to protect their oil from Iran like they did 30 years ago. Suddam was just an American Puppet to start off with.

cal - i wouldn't like to say that I have "right wing" or "left wing" views - I have my own, I don't really swing either way.

I'm not saying that war is always right, however in this case I don't see another alternative. Saddam has been killing his own people for years, he is an evil man, and I don't think anyone can say otherwise.

What else can be done? He is not meant to have scuds, but aparently they have been launched against us (ok, I know there is no proof of this yet). The person that wrote a biography on the bloke recently said "I've no dought he has weapons of mass destruction, and he will use them".

Maybe American and Britian should of stepped in sooner, maybe they shouldn't of put him in power in the first place, but now we have to look to the future.

I think that war is the only viable option left, we gave peace a change and it didnt work, I don't want to wait until he uses his weapons killing even more beore something is done about it.

No-one has the right answers, no-one knows how long this war will last, but if we minise casualtys, and get rid of him and his hencemen the world will be a happier place.

I'll be voting for Tony again.

No matter how many terrorists we kill there will always be more, Terrorism comes from peoples beliefs and emotions, no matter how many wars we have on the matter we are always going to have more wars. SO World Wide Peace is never going to happen.

Plus its human nature to have fights between people.

So unless we can get rid of our emotions and everyone agrees to that we will always have war.

Some people may disagree with war but as a civilian we don't have much option to prevent wars so if there is one then get over it.

Id just like to say if they introduced conscription and we ALL had to fight, would you not be glad of a few properly trained soldiers to show you the ropes, and generally do they bulk of the fighting? War is about the most frightening experience I could possible think of (apart from coming face to face with Beargod in a dark alley - aaaeeeiii!) and im glad that there are people who are willing to be part of a professional fighting force to protect us from conscription and defend us. The whole war issue is the point of this thread is it not, so stop dissing people who maybe "testosterone" filled, but they arent wankers. Have a bit more respect.

The army play an important part of life in this country, if it wasn't for them, some of us may not been around now - don'r forget that they are also part of national intelligence - they try and stop the IRA and other such activities from bombing us, they try and restore peace aswell as defend our country.

Anyone that doesn't respect what they do should be thrown off a bridge IMHO.

I think Americans are clever enough to see that Bushes thin vailed political thuggery is trying to disguise the fact that the American economy is going stright to hell, I doubt he will last another election. Same could be said for Blair, but I think he generally has had to make some very difficult choices whilst in government - petrol and fire strikes, BSE, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq, how much flak can you give one man? I think he mostly gets it right, i mean the minimum wage is going up isnt it?

Hmmm...

but you really think war is right? that saddens me.

It is my firmly held view, that in some cases, it IS the right thing to do. I make no apologies if this saddens you or anyone else here.

I would like to contribute some useful, but I really am not qualified to say whether the war is right or not. I just hope that the loss of human life is kept to a minimum.
Posted by gobbo, 10:46, 22nd March 2003:

Not likely, baghdad has six aging SCUDS. America launched 1000 cruise missiles. You do the math.

I was just replying to Cal's post, Chay. Now that's done, I'll let you and Emma get on with it. ;)

Everyone always asks if the war is right... but surely the important question is
Is it LEFT???
Posted by chandler, 15:13, 22nd March 2003:

or what is going to be Left of Iraq when they are done
Posted by chandler, 15:19, 22nd March 2003:

that's one of my favourite quotes:

"War doesn't determine who's right. War determines who's left"

God, how many times to talk about the war?

It's so wrong, it's actually illegal. I mean, the UN didn't condone it. It's just a couple of governments going and doing stuff. Whether or not it's doing a good thing (and it seems slightly bizarre.. 11 years of putting up with Saddam Hussein, and then going after him.. surely keeping the weapons inspectors there would be a more sensible and cheaper way of making sure Iraq doesn't attack anyone).. it's still done with no support from the United Nations..

Sorry, I forgot..

I voted yes because they are the ones that started this war so they should be the ones to suffer.
Posted by Victor Menendez, 14:23, 26th March 2003:

Yeah, how dare they invade poland like that!

Oh wait.
Posted by Doctor Lucid, 12:38, 16th April 2003:

Yeah, starting the war. Bastards. Didn't they invade Kuwait or something?
