I bought a game called Freelancer the other day. When I run it it says I am running old drivers for my Geforce 2 MX400 graphics card.

I've gone to the Nvidia website and downloaded the updates for this card for XP. However when I go to install them it says that they are not tested for compatability with Microsoft and to stop the install.

Is that compatability essential? If so does that mean I can't update the drivers?

All the game requires is a 16mb 3d card.

Any help would be appreciated as I dont really know what I'm doing.

It's odd that it is asking for the latest drivers, and the drivers are being odd, hmm downgrade your operating system to one that works, like 2000 and maybe 98

Yeah i'm thinking that might be best. The game still runs fine its just a bit jerky which is annoying as hell!

No, it's not essential. In fact, it's a complete load of bollocks. I've got the latest NVIDIA drivers, which aren't tested for compatibility with XP, and they work fine on my system. To be honest, I've never experienced anything wrong when I've installed drivers that aren't tested for compatibility with XP. So don't worry - install them and play! :)

Thanks Gary. HAve done so and the game is now as smooth as my skills with the ladies :).

Nice one. Great game too! Its just like Elite but with spangles and knobs on.
