An extract from an old work college's email to me.

Oh, and Sul - he's the guy you know that used to work at Sansburys (A Crighton).

There was a bloody ant nest in my laptop last night - I turned my computer - and noticed a few ants walking on the battery part and the screen. the few ants eventually increased in number - and
eventually [after 2 minutes] there was thousands of the bliters crawling in and out of the little holes all inside my computer and all over the desk i am sitting at now. i was amazed and shocked. how
dare they. i was up for 4 hours opening up the smallest parts of my laptop - only for find nest after nest after nest. all getting bigger each time. and me getting sicker and sicker each time. all having
hundreds of little white eggs. i nearly was ill. i felt sick. those little pests where making my laptop into the 'queens' nest [or it looked like several queens nests - but i am no ant expert]. it was sick. like
something out of a horror movie. but i sat there - taking the computer apart until 2am and scraping out what i found with a little screwdriver and blowing more out - and killing them with bleach as they
landed on the table. it was pure pure horror. there was so many of them - it seemed like a pointless task and i'd thought i'd lost my computer forever as they just kept appearing - more and more.
eventually - i decided - as having got rid of the big white egg looking parts [it looked like parmesan cheese - but i did not taste to check if it was similar] that the queen had probably gone and that the
others were likely to go too - so i put it all back together and hoped they'd just get lost by themselves. this morning - there was only a few running about [with no queen - ha ha] and tonight - i've just
seen about 5 running on the screen - these i kill instantly. they are the cheekiest things i know now. i had nightmares last night too - and will probably have more nightmares again tonight.

Ants are right little fuckers - many a hazy, sunny afternoon was spent when I were a lad with a magnifying glass and a load of nuked ants - great days!

we should all group together and buy land in Brazil...
Posted by beargod, 09:36, 14th May 2003:

we need to group together for that?
Posted by cal, 09:43, 14th May 2003:

yeah - they only let giant people buy land in brazil. if we all stand on each others sholders and wear a huge trenchcoat, we're bound to get away with it
Posted by beargod, 09:44, 14th May 2003:

ok then, but can't we just pay a tall man to do it?

is the land in that article like "lets remove some rainforest and sell some land" ?
or is it like just land that they found down the back of the sofa along with some change and the remote control and thought "whoo we could get a bit of cash for that"

The best bit of comedy is where Vivian enters the room in the first episode

You can't go wrong with Rik and Ade...Never really got into The Young Ones (was a bit young myself) but I loved Bottom - Gas Man was one of the funniest things I'd seen for a long time.
Posted by beargod, 13:27, 14th May 2003:

How old are you, they were only just made in the eighties and have been re-reun about a million times on TV, but yes Bottom is fabulous aswell
Posted by cal, 13:30, 14th May 2003:

bottom is good, but young ones is better

neil and mike add quite a bit to it
Posted by beargod, 13:31, 14th May 2003:

mike was hedgehog in bottom
Posted by arsepuppy, 13:34, 14th May 2003:

Well Bottom was a spinoff-of-sorts of The Young Ones (via "Filthy, Rich and Catflap", of course)
Posted by arsepuppy, 13:41, 14th May 2003:

That's why there was was repetition of actors/characters. (innit.)
Posted by Victor Menendez, 13:46, 14th May 2003:

There are some cynical people who say that Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson have never changed their acts in their entire careers. A statement stunningly disproved when Rik Mayall rolled his Quad bike over his own head.
Posted by chandler, 13:51, 14th May 2003:

hahaha :D
Posted by chandler, 13:52, 14th May 2003:

i cant say i liked Mike much in the young ones
it was almost like he didnt fit in that show at all.
did someone pull out or something or was he supposed to be in it from the start, cos mike never really said anything funny
Posted by Foghorn Leghorn, 13:55, 14th May 2003:

I went to see 'Bottom' at the theatre. Extremely funny
Posted by cal, 14:18, 14th May 2003:

i thought mike was funny

beargod: I'm 26 but at the time I was more into football and didn't really watch much TV, I also didn't get into movies until the very late eightise/early nineties. Don't get me wrong, I have seen The Young Ones, my best mate was really into it but I was only really interested in Bottom. If I'm honest, the Vyvyan character used to bug me a bit.
