OK, Here's the situation.

A few months ago, we found a house we really liked for the price we were after in Leyland, Lancs. it was ideal, and the person living there said he wasn't in a chain, and as we had already sold and moved we could of been in there in 3 weeks.

Great - we put in a good offer that was accepted and we contacted the lawyers. Our morgage was soon agreed and things seemed to be progressing well, too good to be true we thought. It was.

In the survey, it mentioned that the Garage was in need of repair or replacement, I went to take another look and the vender then told me some new information that he had not passed on until after i'd paid £500 or so for the servey and local searches.

Apparently he had been trying to sue the council because of the damage to the garage, saying that it had been caused by the tree's at the back of the property (in a council estate), after waiting ages to get the exact details on the situation, we finally have them, and don't know what to do, should we keep going, or pull out?

Basically, his isurance company paid for a full report on the damage to be done, and it was found that the damage to the garage was indeed done by the trees, and it recommended that the tree's be cut down and replaced by smaller or more manageable ones. My solicitors tells me that after reading the details that the council have admited liability and will have to re-build the garage.

if this is the case - that is fine, but we want to make sure that it doesn't affect the house aswell.

I'm not very good with reports and letters wrote in legal jargin, so if anyone has time and knows about this kind of stuff - could they took at a look at the corespondence?

It's in a .tiff format, which should be easily readable on Windows.

Here's the file

I really want to move soon, but don't want to jump into this house and find that I'm going to have to foot the bill for repair work caused by these trees.

jlittle, you can not be liable for anything that happened to the hosue before you bought it. If the council have taken responcilbility for the damage then they will pay for it. You willprobably have to kick them in the ass tyo get them to do the work...but i wouldnt think you would be liable.
