So, any information you can give would be appreciated. That is, good pubs, bad places where bad people stay, good areas to stay, restaurants, etc etc
It's not far from me. Which is good.
How far AP? Is it close enough to meet for pints and long discusions?
20mins on the train. I'm moving back up north in late august though :(

Hey! I live in Reading! I'm currently a student at the University here, but a bit of a frugal one when it comes to nights out, so I'm not the best person to ask about places to go I'm afraid. The best pub I know of is the Hope Tap on Friars Street, it caters for most peoples' tastes and needs. There's the infamous "get shot" Matrix club, which I hear is dead (no pun intended) these days. Pavlov's Dog is alright, music isn't too loud but sometimes the average age of patrons dips into the teens. As for living, the areas just outside the town centre are a bit naff, you have to go a bit further out to find somewhere nice. Oh, and I'll be back home in Coventry from Saturday, so don't try to look me up :)
What areas should keep away from when looking for somewhere to live? And on the flip side, where should i look to live. I need names please.
I don't lie either...
You trying to insinuate anything, Mr. Can????
;p
Foggy: Ask Big Steve (gobbo) when he comes online. He's a Reading lad.
Oh yeah..I shall try and remember.. Cheers man.

I hate driving in reading, even with directions, Its like your following a road, following the signs then all of a sudden there are no signs, so you carry on, then there are some signs for it, then you realise you have gone in a big circle and are heading back out to the M4. Fog do you want goobos yahoo name?
Its cool BG, i will wait on him coming online. Thanks though.

I was hoping to avoid it altogether, but its the cheapest place around unless I go far, plus We could get a house in that place
Foggie are you still coming over for a visit or has that gotten canceled?
I live about 20 min train journey from reading so been there a few times, the square in reading is quite nice, but i have been spoilt slightly by the southampton one when i am at uni which is amazing, the monks retreat i think is a weatherspoons is pretty big and quite cheap obviously, matrix may have shut down now but cannot be sure, if not walkabout is open until 2 which is a nice place, so is RG-1's i think. If you want a big club go to utopia its quite cool but a bit out of town, there is a bus that goes there from in town i think. Finaly place i have been to is Fez club which is a bit shite :)
Hope this helps.
Don't the Fez have a few good gigs though?
(Where are you from, btw? I'm also 20mins away by train)
That waxwork of a monk hanging from the ceiling at the Monk's Retreat never fails to scare the shit out of me.
However, in the same pub, there is a *very fit* dark-haired waitress. Clumsy as all fuck but bloody stunning.
I am not sure, they may well do, i just remember for my last birthday me and mates were gonna go to matrix but it was shut so we had to go to Fez club instead and i didnt think it was that good (although it was my birthday and i was incredibly drunk).
I am from sandhurst, its between reading and guildford, you?
I'm living at Didcot at the moment.
*shudder*
Heh, completely the opposite direction :) been through it a couple of times on the train though.

well, being a pure bred Reading man i feel in a good position to say that you should only come to Reading if you have a good job offer cos decent jobs are a bit thin on the ground. Pubs arent too bad, there are lots of trendy places so if you are a bit scruffy forget it. reading festival is just outside of the town centre, so thats good if you can actually get tickets!
The clubs are terrible. Very boring, very expensive. You have been warned!
Bad people stay in the terraced housing round Reading, but seeing as i spent three years in middlesbrough its all rather tame by comparison! Policing is good in the town centre, but dont expect to see any outside of town.
There are quite a few good restaurants, but be warned that the public transport is the worst in the country, no lies! So get a car (beargod will moan about that, but it is the only way to get round Reading, unless you have time to grow a beard on the bus...)
If theres anything else you want to know, just shout! My email is
