Bollocks! She has a flat voice and screeches constantly. And she doesn't even sing her own stuff anymore, it's mainly some rent-a-rapper doing the whole thing with our friend yodelling briefly now and again. Her miniscule talent (and to an extent, her popularity) died when she separated from Tommy Mottola and started the whole "look guys, I own a minge" direction to compensate for her dwindling stock.
Crikey, you must be cloth eared to think she's *that* good.

Rubbish! Her latest album contains almost all her own work! She divorced Mottola because he was controlling her career in a way she didn't want to. She left him and did her own thing, which is fair enough. And you tell me one female artist that
doesn't use her body at sometime or another to promote herself?

I think that it is a shame that a person, especially a woman, which I presume you are, purely from your profile picture; can make a comment such as this. Even if you are a man, it is still sad.
I appreciate you may have been winding us all up and that your comment is not serious, but I hope that you do possess just a little bit of compassion. That compassion shown towards a person who really is lost and down in the dumps can help them gain trust in themselves and help them help themselves get out of a rut, which is the best cure for depression anyway. It's all about confidence in oneself to beable to change. Its comments like the one you made above that could make someone who is depressed, fail to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

With regard to the apology: I believe it was a Welsh/sheep affecting APs music taste remark (hence chay saying he would get in trouble)
With regard to depression: There are roughly two major types
Environmental: as in something has happened in a persons life which has caused depression. The event (or prolonged circumstances) can of course be any number of things. This I think is what friday is describing and will usually require help of some sort either from friends/family or a therapist.
Physiological: as in a chemical imbalance in the brain. This will usually require medication.
Both forms have a huge inpact and cause unbelievable suffering to the person with depression and the people close to them and take unbelievable strength and effort to cope with or overcome.

Well, about half way down this thread, I considered responding to Gary's cussing of early 90's grunge rock music.
But it's not really appropriate.
People who say any illness is all in the mind are bloody stupid though. It seems absurd to believe anything without reasonable reason to believe it. So, what is yr reason for believing there is no such thing as depression? Empirical evidence? Or an attempt to wind up some bleeding-heart liberals and people who diss Mariah Carrey? Either way, it seems quite a bizarre direction to go.
"Oh hell, I really fancy a few days off work. I'll just fake depression. That's right. Maybe I'll cut my arms up as well. Oh great. This'll fool the boss!"
Oh, and Nirvana rule! Not to mention Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, etc...

it makes sense to let threads die when one 'agrees to disagree' - ie, both parties can see where the other one is coming from, and the merit that their viewpoint holds, yet neither wish to alter their opinion.
in this case, it seems that one party simply spouts some unsupported, insensitive opinion, and when he finds himself opposed, he pretends to be all mature by letting the argument go, when in fact he has nothing to stand on.

Ah, on the contrary Reitsma, my astute Australian friend. I'm letting this go not because I can't stand by my opinion(s), or because I have nothing to stand on.
I'm letting this go because I hate these tit-for-tat exchanges with hours of nothingness in between. I'm letting this go because I'm not here all day every day to defend myself as I'm busy working, and I'd rather not come back day after day to see the same thread listed in the most recent discussions list because then it becomes boring here. And if it becomes boring here, I might stop dropping by every so often - and I'm pretty sure no one would want that - I mean, who would start all these interesting controversial threads, eh? ;)
Finally, I'm letting this go because I'd rather not offend anyone else more than I have done already. I probably stepped over that proverbial line a few days back, so I'm redrawing it here.
