Just put in our first offer on a flat! It's a one bedroom place with a huge kitchen (wooooooooo hooooooooo) a nice livingroom and bathroom. It's in a lovely part of Edinburgh about 10 minutes from the city centre and overlooks the river. A lovely sunny garden and old victorian storage shed in said garden is also part of the deal.
Closing date is tomorrow and I think I'm to nervous and excited to wait that long!!

sounds great. Hope it all goes well.
It's on at offers over £80k and we've offered £112k so we have a chance but I'm not getting my hopes too high.

oh yeah scotland has that offers over thing. how are you supposed to know what other people are bidding?
You don't. You note an interest and then the seller sets a closing date. On the closing date you have to submit a sealed bid by midday. If you haven't bid enough then tough you just lost your flat. Harsh but fair.

That is quite harsh, and if there is only one person voting would you know?
Posted by
chandler, 12:09, 26th August 2003:
not that fair cos you could put in a bid 30K higher than everyone and you've wasted 30K thats a bit bad
BG: You get told how many notes of interest there are. Each one is likely to result in a bid.
Chay: Thats why you have to get it valued, look at how much others in the area have gone for and decide how much you really want it.

I like our system moer, but then again thinking about it there is not much more difference other then there is not time limit
how many others put a bid in for it mr beer?
not sure yet exactly how many bid but there were 9 notes of interest i think, so potentially 9 other bids.

That is a lot for just one flat, well for what I am used to anyway, it looked like the flat we have bought was on the market for ages and as far as we know we were the only ones to put an offer in, due to them taking it off the market so quickly
yeah it's why the hopes are not that high.
Still no word, which is not a good sign :( . I did find out there were 12 bids in total!!

That is a hell of alot of bids, hope you get it dude
doesn't look hopeful I'm afraid. They usually get back to you really quickly if you have been successful....ah well.

beargod, 15:19, 27th August 2003:
Well in that case then dude, better luck next time
Bugger.
We were 4th out of 10 bids. It went for about 8-10K more than we offered, thats £40-45K above the asking price. Madness. Fuckers.

That is too much more I believe. Get a house in england and commute dude
Posted by
chandler, 15:48, 27th August 2003:
yeah cos english house prices are soooo cheap :S
Posted by
beargod, 15:49, 27th August 2003:
They are supposed to be in the North East dude, a hell of alot cheaper
it's not the initial price thats the killer it's the increase on sale. You see £80k and think right fine no worries and it go's for £120k. Kinda demoralising.

Compared to house prices in Edinburgh, prices in the North East are MUCH cheaper. Although the financial and physical cost of such a hefty commute would probably balance the two out. Anyway, why would anyone in their right mind
choose to live in the North East?!

Cos we went to uni ther frankie :P
www.proviser.com/regional/towns/middlesb... See last then £40k for a terraced house in Middlesbrough :) I think you would most likely find it cheaper, plus there is only one change on the train to get to edinburgh
Posted by
beargod, 16:09, 27th August 2003:
Its a 3 hour journey on the train though, and £50-125 for a return ticket, still cheaper though

beargod, 16:12, 27th August 2003:
Still not sure it is worth living in middlesbrough
think i'll stick to Edinburgh, thanks for the thought though ;)

frankie, 16:17, 27th August 2003:
Beargod, exactly, you went to uni there, you wouldn't choose to live there if you didn't have to study there!
Face it Beargod, it was a stupid suggestion wasn't it?
Posted by
chandler, 16:20, 27th August 2003:
yeah if it wasnt for studying there i would never have though "ooh middlesbrough, there's a nice place to move to"

And that blasted fireworks shop that sold fireworks all year round and people played with them in the streets.
Posted by
frankie, 16:23, 27th August 2003:
You seem to get a lot of northern people playing with fireworks unseasonly. It gets a tad irritating when your house backs onto a disused factory where children go to let off said fireworks nightly.

Yes that would get annoying

chandler, 16:27, 27th August 2003:
yeah it was worse around the 5th november though, that night i was walking back from the station and middlesbrough sounded like Kosovo. I kept looking for snipers in the rooftops
Posted by
beargod, 16:29, 27th August 2003:
I got really really paranoid about the 5th november and stuck the letter box door down and filled the hole up with suff so people could not post anything through it

Halloween was worse. We had to pretend we weren't home for fear of the 16 year old townies who'd probably beat us up if we didn't give them any sweets!
Posted by
beargod, 16:38, 27th August 2003:
yeah I bought sweeties just incase and ate them myself
