However in two weeks I'll be lying under one of these with a spanner, so I'll not be bored then =D
Posted by
friday, 09:19, 29th August 2003:
why, grim? what will you be doing under there with a spanner? (apart from the obvious)
where is the apathy vote.

chandler, 09:27, 29th August 2003:
"I'll be lying under one of these with a spanner"
so there will be two Spanners under that "trendy" car then ;)
Posted by
Grim..., 09:31, 29th August 2003:
It's not a 'trendy' car, it's a car in for servicing / modification by Mitsubishi Ralli-Art.
And I'll be mending/servicing/customising it.
Party on, party on, party on!
Party on, party on, party oooo-on!
Party on, party on, party on!

Its a bit low isn't it? You say you are a big lad and that car has a very low body, do they pick it up and drop it on you?
Posted by
chandler, 09:41, 29th August 2003:
so do people go to tracks to zoom round in them?
Posted by
plindoe, 10:23, 29th August 2003:
Grim get me a job there please!
Dont know very much about car shit, but I do like them!!!
Posted by
Grim..., 10:32, 29th August 2003:
BG: They have big car-lifts.
Chay: Yes, people (like Tommi Makenan) zoom round tracks in them.
Plin: Um, you need to know
some stuff about cars. Could you (for example) fit a new set of brakes?
Posted by
chandler, 10:33, 29th August 2003:
aha i see, i dont mind that, it's probably fun to do/watch. i thought it was mods for cars for people to race up and down A roads in, which i hate. but fair enough :)
Posted by
beargod, 10:39, 29th August 2003:
So they lift up the cars over a main walk way, where you have to walk around with a spanner and they drop the car onto you?
Posted by
Grim..., 11:54, 29th August 2003:
BG: Um...
Chay: They do some private sector work, but not much.
And I race up and down A roads - don't hate me =[
(I may have to pull out the psycho photo)

chandler, 12:15, 29th August 2003:
i pulled out of a bad junction, with cars parked on double yellow lines both side and was hit yes. yes it was my fault, i wasnt speeding out of the junction i was creeping out from a carpark so what's it got to do with racing up and down A roads.
You dont get given extra speed priveledges just for being a better/more experienced driver than me. :)
It's not that i care if they kill themselves, but its the fact they could kill other people.
Plus the fact that getting extra "phat" exhausts and spoilers and stuff fitted to your car must rank pretty high on the tiny cock compensation scale (i think its about a 9.8)
But then you are probably let off cos you get paid money to fit them to other peoples cars. so you are taking money from muppets, and that is to be applauded
:P teehee

Do you keep a spatula in the boot in case one day you have to scrape someone off the bonnet?
Posted by
Grim..., 14:23, 29th August 2003:
BG: Possible, but unlikely - getting into the dashboard of a car is difficult and timeconsuming (unless you smash the plastic), and faking a speed from the other end is even harder, because the speedo runs from the gearbox.
Chandler: No - do you have a crowbar for digging cars out of your wings?

(cos you need a mouse for 3D stuff)
Is that speedo a true speedo Grim, the one that says 100+?
Posted by
beargod, 15:37, 29th August 2003:
yes it is foggy, its over 150 mph
Posted by
Grim..., 15:37, 29th August 2003:
Yeah - it was a very nice car trying very hard indeed.
It reads at about 160mph - speedo accuracy at that speed might not be any good, so the actual speed is anything from about 144 - 176mph, although I've no reason to suspect is should be that innacurate.
Driving that fast isn't especially dangerous, especially if you are not on a road, but reaching over to the glove compartment to get your digicam to take a photo was perhaps a bit looney =]
And on what road/track did you do this speed?
Posted by
beargod, 15:53, 29th August 2003:
the superhighway
Posted by
friday, 15:54, 29th August 2003:

Foghorn Leghorn, 15:39 29 August 2003 :
And on what road/track did you do this speed?
The M6.

Cal: Less Fuel = Better Fuel Economy =]
Posted by
beargod, 16:53, 29th August 2003:
How did you get that fast on the M6 without getting in a jam?
Posted by
Grim..., 16:56, 29th August 2003:
It's the M6 sprint on the way to Lancaster - just past the last Manchester turn (J30, I think) the M6 opens up into 4 lanes and there are never any cars around. It's straight as you like and you can pick up Rock FM at 96.9FM on the stereo =]
I loved the M6 sprint, but I'm never going to do it again =[

beargod, 16:57, 29th August 2003:

Posted by
Grim..., 17:06, 29th August 2003:
Do you drive, BG?
Have you ever driven a car at over 70mph?
Posted by
beargod, 17:11, 29th August 2003:
I might have only to get round slow traffic though
Posted by
chandler, 17:13, 29th August 2003:
160mph? thats over twice the speed limit and several dozen mph beyond stupid.
Posted by
Grim..., 17:15, 29th August 2003:
Ah but BG goes too fast also so I label him a townie using his own complicated prejudices.
Posted by
Grim..., 17:16, 29th August 2003:
Chay: 160(ish), not 150ish... And it may be several dozen mph beyond stupid but it's also seceral dozen mph beyond 'Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee' =]
Posted by
Grim..., 17:17, 29th August 2003:
Bah. Chay 'totally changed time'
$£&^%&%^^$*&%^
Posted by
chandler, 17:19, 29th August 2003:
grim. according to the stopping distance chart 160mph stopping distance is 1440 feet (yeah i know cars have good brakes nowadays but still)
thats a third of a mile to stop.
Posted by
beargod, 17:23, 29th August 2003:
Yes Grim.. I got to about 80 MPH once, It was a cold dark day...
And its not just going over the speed limit its also the god damn speed
Posted by
Grim..., 17:24, 29th August 2003:
Yes, I'd imagine a Ford Anglia (which is what distances are based on) would struggle to stop at 160mph.
I'd imagine the actual distance to be closer to 600 feet than 1440 (I may have to test this now)...
Posted by
Grim..., 17:24, 29th August 2003:
Where's the cut-off point, BG?
When is too fast 'too fast'?
Posted by
chandler, 17:30, 29th August 2003:
when its 160 fucking miles an hour!
Posted by
chandler, 17:30, 29th August 2003:
if it was possible to do that normally i could manage Milton Keynes to Otely, West Yorkshire in an hour!
Posted by
Grim..., 17:31, 29th August 2003:
Fair enough, but if going too fast makes someone a 'townie', I want to know how fast it is so I can spot my fellow townies on the motorway and race with them =]
Posted by
Grim..., 17:32, 29th August 2003:
Neat.
I got from my house (in Bedford) to my Girlfriends house (in Lancaster) that day in two hours and five minutes.
I was
desperate to do it in two hours or less but I couldn't.

If anyone wants to purchase the 160mph car mentioned, it's currently on sale for £1000.
It's black, needs more paint, and has all this under the bonnet.
Purchase!
Purchase!
It has good brakes, too =]
