Now, I'm not starting an argument here but how is car maintenance any less geeky than computing?? It's like the geeky outlet for Townies. It's like something to do when the bus shelter's out of bounds and SmackDown! isn't on telly ;P

(only joking, btw)
BTW2....
"Cool" is entirely subjective and thus doesn't exist as an entity in itself. For example, even Scooter can appear "cool" to some despite the fact that they are very near to having no fucking merit at all ;)
"no affense dudes, but the way i c it, ur all a pack of fuk'n computa geeks. Get a fuk'n life man"
I wish I could spell like him.
So, we're all retards, your wife is worried about you (no one worries about the shock caused when you find out you have a wife by SMS) and a guy from Ludicorp is impressed that you can send SMS messages from a web page. Which doesn't say much for GNE.

You have. And you'll never be able to leave.

GEEK
n. Slang
1.
1. A person regarded as foolish, inept, or clumsy.
2. A person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept.
2. A carnival performer whose show consists of bizarre acts, such as biting the head off a live chicken.
Our word geek is now chiefly associated with student and computer slang; one probably thinks first of a computer geek. In origin, however, it is one of the words American English borrowed from the vocabulary of the circus, which was a much more significant source of entertainment in the United States in the 19th and early 20th century than it is now. Large numbers of traveling circuses left a cultural legacy in various and sometimes unexpected ways. For example, Superman and other comic book superheroes owe much of their look to circus acrobats, who were similarly costumed in capes and tights. The circus sideshow is the source of the word geek, “a performer who engaged in bizarre acts, such as biting the head off a live chicken.” We also owe the word ballyhoo to the circus; its ultimate origin is unknown, but in the late 1800s it referred to a flamboyant free musical performance conducted outside a circus with the goal of luring customers to buy tickets to the inside shows. Other words and expressions with circus origins include bandwagon (coined by P.T. Barnum in 1855) and Siamese twin.

Perhaps we should just call him a car enthusiast? I think of myself as a geek (I dont bite the heads off chickens though) (well sometimes) and I'd rather not be tarred with the same brush as Grimothy!!

Eh?
Why not?
how about poyndexter then?
Posted by
arsepuppy, 01:52, 4th September 2003:
Grim..... That definition of geek is immensely out of date in terms of today's usage.
ultimately, like it or not, the geeks hath inherited the earth. People look to the geeks to see what the next cool thing is (this may sound weird to you but think of the recest bonafide "cool" trends recently and their origins. You're not going to find "cool" in the pages of mixmag or *shudder* Max Power (the best example of closeted loserdom i've ever seen).
"/shakes head". Why? Explain.
To clarify, the enlightened part of society doesn't use the term "geek" in the outdated Tod Browning sense anymore FFS......
"one of us, one of us"

I know you're desperate to shake of the "geek" tag, but pretending to not know how to count past two ain't working, Grimothy.

When you really think about it, anyone with the slightest iota o intelligence can be considered a "geek" in some respects. Nowt wrong with it, be it geeky with football, cars, music, computers, armed robbery, anything, FFS. It's a word, a harmless one. An acceptable one. LIVE WITH IT!!! :D

"bollockS" even. There were two last time I checked.
It's so cool. It just has a big white label saying "SCOTCH WHISKEY". Same applies for Whiskey and Gin. It's pretty good in that you can get 70cl for £6. In my richer days, I usually plump for Safeway 5 Year Old Scotch Whiskey for just under £8. But, when you're having to rub the pennies together, £10 can get you a big bottle of White Label Scotch, plus a packet of Drum Mild and some Blue Rizla and Swan Filter Tips, leaving you exactly 70p which can get you Chat or That's Life or Take a Break magazine.
If you've already got filter tips or a nice magazine, you can get a big bag of bananas off the market instead.
