Since I'm the only one online, i'm going to start a thread that nobody will read. Only joking like.
So, what would your idea for "worst music festival lineup ever" be?
Mine would be:
Seal
(obv. don't mind him but injokes an that...)
Kosheen
Fatboy "Fucking Shite" Slim
Fat Dancer Robbie Williams
Tom Jones
Scooter
Mis-Teeq
Gareth "Tonight Matthew I'm going to be Nibbler off Futurama" Gates
The whole fucking So Solid Crew
Red Hot Chili Peppers (Make a fucking good album rather than trying to be "liked by everyone" stadium rock)
Foo Fighters (Imsomnia cure. Mr Grohl, being an alumnus from an overrated bargain basement Pixies/Husker Du/Dinosaur Jr/[Insert early 90's grunge band here] tribute band does not give you grounds for inflicting your watered-down Q magazine shite on us....)
Limp Bizkit
And Geri Bleedin' Hallwell cleaning the loos. Fuck off Geri.
Oh yeah, because they inexplicably turn up at festivals, Reef and Dodgy... Cunts.

You realise that if you put those artists together, the festival would be a massive hit.
Posted by
Grim..., 09:17, 4th September 2003:
Apart from Gareth Gates, that would be a quality festival.
Where do I get tickets?

I agree with Limp Bizkit, Scooter, So Shit Crew, Nibbler and Mis-Teeq. I'd go and see the rest. Definitely don't agree with the Foo Fighters comment. They don't sound like any of the other bands listed. And finally, I'd rather see early Fatboy than recent Fatboy, but I'd still be happy for him to be on the bill 'cos I know his wife. *clang*

I'm an "aquaintance" not a friend but we're on first name terms. I have a mate works at XFM. That's how I met her.

EMP: The foos certainly don't sound like them, But Nirvana did, hence "alumnus" (la Grohl).
Cobain often went on record saying how he ripped these bands off (like using Black Francis' quiet/loud/quiet/loud formula for "...Teen Spirit"). But yeah, I don't like the Foos. they don't seem to have any personality.
(Can I also add Tenancious D, Busted and Linkin Park to the list?)

In my defence I was a tad drunk when I wrote this thread. I know, a shaky defence etc...
"(Can I also add Tenancious D, Busted and Linkin Park to the list?)"
No, yes and definitely.
Yes, yes, and yes. A death to Comedy Rock! Unless it's me doing it.
Plus, I object to the quiet/loud thing. Come on! The 1812 Overture had that quiet/loud thing going on! Are you suggesting Black Francis (in his house in Jennings Road)
invented music that starts out quiet and then becomes loud? It's a basic trick in music to stop it all being the same level.
Maybe he invented using your distortion / superfuzz / big muff pedal to do it. But that's another story.
Green River!

Do you mean Housemartins early, or
Better Living Through Chemistry early, or what?
Posted by
frankie, 09:23, 5th September 2003:
Like, before he was born. So just his pregnant mum on stage bobbing about a bit. That would be more interesting.
Like in 'Ready to Drop III'?

Um
Do you mean Housemartins early, or Better Living Through Chemistry early, or what?
By Early Fatboy, I mean early Fatboy. If I meant the Housemartins I'd have said Early Norman Cook.
That's like "I prefer early Foo Fighters". Do you mean Nirvana?
;-)

Grim..., 13:34, 5th September 2003:
Why do you like early Fatboy?
Although good, I think his early stuff get's whipped by things like
Right Here, Right Now and
Gangsta Trippin'.
Posted by
beargod, 14:34, 5th September 2003:
I like his first two albums, the others are not as good, from what I have heard of them.

So you liked
Better Living Through Chemistry and
We've Come A Long Way, Baby but not
Halfway Between The Gutter And The Stars, right?

Plus I did not think much of his live on brihton beach album thingy which I don't believe was totally him
Whereas i am of the opinion that they are all shite.
(i quite liked the housemartins though)
He's nothing special. Although I did see him and Zoe shopping in Waitrose in Hove. Ohhh, and actually we lent him our Marquee when he played in St. Albans. And he signed it. "Cheers for a top tent. Norman x"
Norman X? am i thinking of the right bloke?

Doc: i meant quiet/loud in the 80's grunge songwriting formula used by Mr. Francis.
Posted by
arsepuppy, 18:51, 5th September 2003:
Fuzz and all...
Yeah, true to some extent, but on the other hand, that's like saying that The Cure invented Goth, and therefore all Goth is ripping off the cure (I don't know if they did.. I'm no expert).. or that, I don't know, The Beach Boys stole male vocal harmonies from some Barbers Shop Quartet. The Pixies started out the Quiet/Loud formula along with Mother Love Bone, Green River, Temple of the Dog, and all that. But saying that, all of those were just various members of Mudhoney and Pearl Jam anyway...
Posted by
arsepuppy, 23:23, 6th September 2003:
To be honest though, i never said he invented it, just that Mr. Cobain cited Mr. Black as prime influence for that particular song in an interview once (i forget where it was), explicitly stressing the pattern of quiet verse/loud chorus/quiet verse in "...Teen Spirit" was lifted from a few Pixies tunes, which used that very formula (or similar). The actual quote from him was (paraphrased heavily) was "i ripped off the structure for that song from the Pixies. I 'ate meself and i want to die, like. Where's me gun?"
Posted by
arsepuppy, 23:27, 6th September 2003:
Anyway, it's not important. And didn't Bauhaus precede The Cure? (who weren't necessarily Goth. Strangely, The Stone Roses were, in their original pre-fame incarnation at least)
pah, it all boils down to Neil Diamond and well you know it.

Sorry sir :(
Just cant stand the 'sailor. Whiny high pitched "oh we had to name ourselves after a Tim buckley album to look cool" fools. James Walsh looks like my mate's mum too.
They're no MN8, i can tell you ;)

arsepuppy, 23:18, 8th September 2003:
I guess I don't like anyone :(
Although I can say that I was one of the first starsailor haters. When they supported JJ72 (like) and Amen (don't like) on the NME (*spit*) tour a couple of years ago, when they had just released their first single but were getting a somewhat positive response, I designed a t-shirt done in a Powerpuff Girls style bearing the legend "Starsailor Are Fucking Shit". Dunno why. probably drunk or something.
Posted by
cal, 08:12, 9th September 2003:
starsilor - like
jj72 - don't like
jj72 would be nothing if they didn't have a hot laydee in the band. they whine far more than starsailor

arsepuppy, 19:39, 9th September 2003:
I used to hate 'em. "collage of all shite indie bands" was my original opinion of them. But i grew to like their first album, despite Greaney's whiny "mummy i won't clean my room" lyrics. Second album was fucking gash though.

Love, The Seeds, the Stooges, Serge Gainsbourg, The Smiths, Pixies, Bowie, Dylan, Prince, SFA, T-Rex, The Slits, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, JSBX, Stones, Clash, VU, Funkadelic, Depeche Mode, fucking all sorts really. Can't remember for the life of me though.
