This is a read-only copy. The forum ran on iamcal.com from 2000 until its database was lost in 2016, and this topic was rebuilt from copies saved by the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. Some replies may be missing.

Possibly the best site on the web? [via matt s]

How about some we-love-jacob wallpaper fodder?

First encounters on Win32 (you'll need the game too). My life is complete.

London.pm's Kake writes a nice introduction to using Class::DBI with the Template Toolkit to avoid writing much code for perl webapps.

Cal,

I've never used perl to access a database. I have only used PHP for web based database access. Do you use perl for database access? Do you prefer it over PHP?

I know a little perl, but definitely would not classify my self as an expert.

I find it better for many things. You can organise your code much better, and leverage the giant CPAN to tak all the work away (e.g. with Class::DBI and TT). On the downside, it's slower to work with, and all too easy to write code that's entirely unreadable.

I prefer PHP for rapid web dev, perl for tools and large projects.
