...But do (female) cats, dogs and other (female) mammals have periods? It's something I never thought about until recently.

My parents dog occasionally gets "in season", as they call it, and bleeds. Bit weird thinking about dolphins though. :/

I've always wanted to know that!! I know female dogs go on heat....

Just thinking... You know when dogs drag their arse along the carpet post-dump?? Imagine if they did that during Teatime With The Communists?? It'd look like a suicide bombing at a gateau factory.

"Technically, menstruation is the shedding of the uterine lining between
ovulations. Menstruation has been detected in most nonhuman primates, as
well as in marsupials, carnivores, insectivores, tree shrews, flying lemurs,
bats, and elephants (Profet, 1993). But not all mammals have overt, or
externally visible, menstruation as humans do. Many menstruate covertly,
reabsorbing the uterine lining after it is shed so that bleeding is not
externally visible. Because the mammals we know to menstruate are not all
closely related to one another, we assume that the process is widespread,
and that nearly all female mammals menstruate in some fashion."

Quote from somewhere else:

"Other mammals like dogs and cats sometimes will bleed a little when they are in heat, which is when they ovulate and mate, but they do not have menstrual cycles. Having a menstrual cycle means you do not go into heat. Because of this, humans can mate whenever they want, and have babies at any time of the year."

But what about dolphins? I heard somewhere that they are the only other mammals that mate for pleasure (other than humans)

or maybe cows as well as this picture clearly illustrates a subtle form of foreplay between the two......

Rats and quite a few other mammals can breed any time of the year, not sure if they have the cycles or what, they just have the option to have little babies whenever

Female cats don't have a menstrual cycle, they only ovulate due to the PAIN of intercourse... male cats have backwards pointing barbs on their naughtly bits :O

Ladies: be glad you were born human.
