Anyone want to explain why the following isn't working?

CSS:

.bigpad {
border-collapse: collapse;
border: 1px solid #111111;
padding-left: 2px;
padding-right: 2px;
padding-top: 2px;
padding-bottom: 2px;
background-color: #ededed;
}

HTML:

<table class=\"bigpad\"><tr><td>blah blah blah</td></tr></table>

Now why does the padding not work?

Because in the collapsed model of a table only the cells have padding, apparently.

There used to be an example here.

I'm not sure what that is trying to accomplish.

Here is a little bit of code to try and understand what you were looking for.

.bigpad {
border-collapse: collapse;
border: 1px solid #111111;
padding-left: 2px;
padding-right: 2px;
padding-top: 2px;
padding-bottom: 2px;
background-color: #ededed;
}

#jdtest {
background: #dcdcdc;
color: #333333;
width:75px;
height:10%;
position:relative;
padding:0;
}

Sorry I can't help more.. I'm still learning CSS my self..
