I make an htm file in Dreamweaver, and then use that file from the stationery option in outlook or outlook express. Then I send to my mailing list. Trouble is, when I sent it to myself via outlook, to test, the size of the file was 26KB when it hit my inbox. But when I did it in outlook express, the file size was 256KB!!
Seeing as a lot of my readers are actually on the end of not so brilliant phone lines, it is imperitive for me to keep this file size as low as possible.
When I tried the bulk mailing in outlook (before the outlook express experiment) I got an error message to say that Windows would close the program and that an error log was being created.
Can anyone offer advice?

I agree with warhead - maybe there should be an 'advice' forum section for people wanting help.
In answer to Friday, maybe attaching the web page rather than pasting it in will help.
Even so, 256Kb isn't
that big...

i don't know to be honest - maybe it wasn't actually sending the pictures in one version because they were already on your hard disk. you're welcome to mail it to me and i'll tell you how big it is (cal@iamcal.com).

Hang on - surely the solution is 'use Outlook, not Outlook Express'.
Maybe Outlook has better compression.

Grim - attatching the web page is not as exciting as opening the email and finding the newsletter PLUS you would be suprised, Im sure, to learn that opening attatchments is a bit time consuming and I think it would cause some complications with my readers, plus its not that professional. And standby for further amazement, I used to get complaints when my mail was 150kb, 250kb would send my ratings down the ditch!!!
Cal - thanks will do this now. 2 versions, one from outlook and one from outlook express.

My results from outlook express 170kb and from outlook 29kb
now problem is, from outlook it wont do it to the whole mailing list, i get this windows error and outlook closes itself
?

i'd be suprised if either was actually compressing it. i'd imagine UUEncoding (which makes things bigger, not smaller), but i'd have to check to find out. did you mail them to me? (i haven't recieved them)

Cal, the pictures are not supposed to be in the htm file, but are present on my server, there are only links in the htm file, therefore keeping file size down.

Eek - I've just remembered the big HTML / Plain Text debate that was once had on this site.
I'm going to scuttle off and find it...

i've recieved them now
the outlook express one has the images attached - the outlook one merely points to them (as it should). naughty outlook express.

If you put the picture into Express, then right-click on it and hit 'properties', you can change the address of the image to your online copy, then everything should be fine.
