...Takashi Miike's "Audition" on CH4 last night?
It was shite. Poorly edited, rubbish narrative (wow! only two set pieces in the film! excellent!), badly resolved storyline. Like a less cohesive Lynch. If such a term is valid.

themes conveyed?? THE THEMES!!!" type response *
Is that the Extremely Violent Japanese Film Star?

Um, yeah, Miike does tend to direct really graphic films, apparently. Maybe because he's a hack (like Tarantino) and some people seem to bizarrely rate stuff more highly if it contains violence/gore, and forget that they are watching shallow wank.
I know people who would hunt you down for that comment :D
I've not seen it so I can't comment but I have been told it's excellent one several occasions. It got damn good reviews too. I meant to see The Happiness of The Karukuris (or whatever it was) when that was out but never did. Same with Ichi the Killer.
I need to be in the right mood to watch uber violence but will approach with caution after your warning.

It's probably not as bad as I make out, but after hearing people go on about it, I just found it immensely "hollow", to be honest.

Which comment?
Miike = hack or Tarantino = hack? :D
(Can someone tell Quentin that making montages of pop-culture referencing dialogue and desperately forcing a sense of "cool" into his work does not equal good filmmaking IMO)
