Mr.Nishi, 10:24, 11th December 2003:
Last night after a hard night of killing droids and other evil people with light sabers and such I was driving my friends back home when suddenly:
I failed my Navigation check and then crit failed my drive roll.....
In essence I stacked my beautiful little car...it's pretty shagged and it was 75% shit road and crap conditions and 25% me being a wanker behind the wheel. Bit upset as I had only had it a little while (along with me licence) and that car is great.
Just needed to pour out feelings of angst/irritation at the whole thing and await some hopefully witty comments that will cheer me up.
And yes it was probly sprem on the road....

what the hell does your second sentance mean?
"i failed my navigation check and then crit failed my drive roll......"
was you wearing your seatbelt?

Commiserations. Was it anything flash?
And is it quite definately beyond all repair?
Posted by
Mr.Nishi, 10:33, 11th December 2003:
Yes I was one guy wasn't which surprised me but he was okay....
We were roleplaying earlier in the evening...ie I went the wrong way and then the car just glided across loads of road and hit curb and went up bank shagging it alot. Guess I will have to infiltrate more gaming memes into iamcal...hehe

Twas a Polo 1.4 about 4 years old or so (V-Reg) and it is definately reparable and I am thanking my lucky stars for fully comp. The front body work is gone, the lights etc missing, front suspention is also broken as are the two front wheel, couldn't see any engine damage but that doesn't mean it isn't there. :-(
Posted by
Grim..., 10:40, 11th December 2003:
You may not be thanking fully comp when you see your insurance premiums next year =/
Glad you're okay, though.

cal, 11:54, 11th December 2003:
yay for gaming memes. i havn't done any paper and pencil roleplay in years. damn, i want to now. anyone else?
oh, yeah, bad luck about ther car thing :(

Is that a plan for the new year an iamcal rpg tt meet? I'm more than happy to GM most things for people except d20 which is the bane of my dice, they only fudged my important rolls yesterday :-(

I want an iamcal snakes and ladders meet.

I imagine grim/matt would be up for an iamcal rpg meet

"I'm pulling out for the shot!"
"K, roll a d10, with + 5 for your 'Money Shot' skill."
"9! 14 baby! Right in the mouth!"
is a critical directly down the throat?
Posted by
Grim..., 14:17, 11th December 2003:
No, critical would be spreming on the floor or something.
A 15 (pure 10) would be directly down the throat =]
God, I haven't touched a dice with more that six sides four about 10 years...
Posted by
arsepuppy, 14:28, 11th December 2003:
How do these games work? Nobody ever tells me these things. I think it's all an elaborate hoax to trick me.
I thought a critical was rolling a natural 10 or 20 or whatever? Say why is roleplaying considered geeky? ;)
Posted by
Grim..., 14:32, 11th December 2003:
Natural, that the word I coudln't remember!
I thought critical was when you failed a roll, not passed it.
However, it's very likely that I am wrong =]
Still, my level 8 Paladin/Monk/Mage/Druid is harder than yours (Obscure AP reference #33).
Maybe it's both. Critical hit and critical miss.

Posted by
tommorris, 15:17, 11th December 2003:
Cal: it is dirty. Out of interest, where does he do it? Woods or urban areas or what? Do they go around wearing crazy hats or wielding swords?
Because it would be a hilarious project for any art or anthropology students.
I play quite a lot of D&D, but not been playing too long, so currently only got a level 5 fighter (nearly level 6).
Fucking good with the bow though, Dex = 19, Strength = 16 with composite, plus i am an elf.

And is LARP just some Buffy fanatics twatting each other on the head with cardboard tubes in a field?

I have a photo of me in chainmail and armour. I was shitting meself though, as wearing all that when you're claustrophobic (no 'scared of santa' jokes please) is fucking scary.
It was to entertain some kids though, so it was ok (not in a Jacko way, though).

Me, Grim, Mr Nishi, cruelemort and maybe tommorris. anyone else an rpg player?

I once played Phantasy Star on the Master System. That was good. Does that count?
Posted by
arsepuppy, 15:41, 11th December 2003:
It all makes sense now though. I really liked the first bit of FF7, thought it was ace, but got immensely disillusioned with it when all the 'materia' stuff came into play. I couldn't quite pin down why it was so popular here.
But it's the cult of the RPG, innit. My little mind can't cope with that kind of thing, too complicated. A bit like monopoly.

Woods. And we have to phys rep our characters, aka: wear stupid clothes and carry big swords.

arsepuppy, 15:53, 11th December 2003:
You should do a LARP event based on hit TV series 'Gladiators'. Then I'll come, only if I can be Shadow, and bring a big cotton bud and a selection of whatever drugs he took to make his eyes all scary.

arsepuppy, 15:55, 11th December 2003:
So do you stand opposite each other and go..
"I swing my sword. Your Health -2. My experience +2. 1 0wn j00"
...without actually moving as such?
AP:
You get experience points when you complete an adventure. When you get a cetain number of points you move up a level. This means you can choose extra skills like swimming, throwing, map-reading or whatever.

I have never done live action before, just the table top d20 stuff. Dunno what live action would be like, all i can say is that i would not wanna be walking round the woods at night and walk into a load of people dressed up in costume hitting each other with swords :)
Posted by
tommorris, 16:42, 11th December 2003:
I dunno. I think it would be pretty cool in a surreal kind of way. Armies of plastic-sword toting D&D-ers marauding around forests would be hilariously funny to watch.
