I've finally written the lyrics for the first song for our band. It's a short little ditty called "The Digestive Tract".

There’s jelly in my belly
Rock the house
Rock the house

There’s Jelly in belly
Rock the house
Rock the house

It’s testing my small intestine
Rock the house
Rock the house

It’s testing my small intestine
Rock the house
Rock the house

So long past the colon
Rock the house
Rock the house

So long past the colon
Rock the house
Rock the house

That’s it now its shit
Rock the house
Rock the house

That’s it now its shit
Rock the house
Rock the house

Posted by Sul, 10:28, 6th January 2004:

Welcome aboard. :D
Posted by Sul, 10:29, 6th January 2004:

Welcome aboard girls. 1 rule though. I dont want you complaining about our rock n roll backstage antics. Keep it all bottled up for the split.

Ok - I won't moan about anything. Are we having costumes?
Posted by Sul, 10:43, 6th January 2004:

Chris and I will have standard gettup, tshirts, jeans and trainers. The girls will have bikini bottoms.
Posted by Rosie, 10:50, 6th January 2004:

Just bikini bottoms?

Won't we get a bit cold?

I've got the song writing buzz now:

Programmer Meets Mentalist

They met in the mental home
She told him she was eroding
He had severe social dysfunction
The result of too much coding
They didn't care what others thought
As long as they were together
And he could have his PERL parser
And they kept her out of the weather

Chorus:
Programmer meets mentalist
They knew as soon as they kissed
That it would be total bliss
Her lovingly melting away
Him silently coding all day

One horrid day the window broke
The rain came a flooding in
She ran to the room's corner
He hurried for some tarpaulin
'I’ll save you!' he cried aloud
Just stay away from the splashes
'I’ve got to get the machine covered
You know how I get when it crashes'

Chorus

When he was satisfied the machine was safe
He ran over to his hysterical girl
'I could have been reduced to nothing then
While you were fussing with PERL!
Now fix the window and think about
Just how much I mean to you
Because if you love that language more than me
I shall have to find somebody new'

Chorus

They went to bed, he lay awake
Thinking about his plight
The girl or his hobby? one must go
Both futures didn't look bright
She awoke to find him tapping away
Had he chosen the other life?
He beckoned her to the PC screen
It said 'print "Will you be my wife?";'

"Grim..., 14:29 06 January 2004 :
Surely:

Not so... bit of a tired an innacurate statement. In most bands, the only role of the drummer is to keep time. Ringo did this perfectly well. Anything else would be intrusive as pure technically proficient drumming per se is rarely needed except for in certain minor genres. However, if John Bonham or Keith Moon were in the Beatles with their more wild routines, it wouldn't work at all.

Keeping time, that's all that's needed.

I joined a band the other day. Been asked to write songs. All been shite so far. I came up with the name for it though. Always a good failsafe that.
Posted by Brock, 15:41, 7th January 2004:

Only role of a drummer to keep time? Right.

Guess the only role of the others is to stop you getting bored when the singer is taking a breath, then, is it?

My arse. It's an instrument. Let the man play.
Posted by arsepuppy, 15:46, 7th January 2004:

But he was on about Ringo.

A free-form manic drum solo would not work within the Beatles sound. It would sound awful. Remember, I said "in most bands". There are some which like the whole elaborate solos, but in the majority of bands, the drummer is in charge of keeping the rhythm in time.
Posted by arsepuppy, 15:50, 7th January 2004:

Should have really said "the main role" though. My bad.
Posted by Grim..., 15:55, 7th January 2004:

If the roll of a drummer (crap pun intended) was only to keep the time, then all a drummer has to do is to hit a snare at the end of each bar - obviously not quite the case.

Listen to, for example, Twist and Shout, to get the feel of Ringo's "timing".
