You don't need to know much about sound proofing if you are going to be a DJ, surely...

who am i? i'm the person who owns this site :/
i don't think anyone here will know anything about soundproofing

I did it to my car =]
Something to do with egg boxes innit.
What sort of info on sound proofing? I know a little bit about it from a course I did last year and can maybe suggest something. Probably just be egg boxes though.

You could also use Rockwool, especially if you can find some that's cheap. You might want to look at studiospares.com - they sometimes have some really cheap stuff.
Use more than one kind of material and leave a space between them. Cover the wall in egg boxes then fill it with rock wool. After that hang boards or curtains from the celing about 5 inches into the room. Should help. Oh and put what ever is producing the noise on a stand. All of this will be useless if you don't have decent seals around the doors and windows.

Unless you wanted to get good quality out of it, of couse.
Bolt it to the floor!
Fuck the neighbours!

Then play some music =]
Posted by
Brock, 15:35, 7th January 2004:
Erm... How about using headphones?
You're only listening to records, aren't you? Rather than playing live instruments...
Posted by
Grim..., 15:57, 7th January 2004:
You can't practice mixing wearing headphones, fool!
You'd need to wear two pairs!

The four-eared man laughs at you.
Posted by
Grim..., 16:00, 7th January 2004:
Indeed he would.
Posted by
cal, 16:03, 7th January 2004:
err, i'd imagine you have a mixer inbetween the decks which allows you to play both and once and run the output into headphones. most setups do...
Posted by
Grim..., 16:13, 7th January 2004:
You need the ability to listen to each channel seperatly, and the ability to listen to two at the same time, without using the crossfader.
Posted by
Grim..., 16:15, 7th January 2004:
Otherwise you wouldn't be able to practise mixing properly.

Speaking of DJ stuff, I'm DJ'ing in a club in London this weekend, but I think it might be in a private room.
If it's not, would anyone like to come and 'phear my m4d DJ skillz'?
Posted by
arsepuppy, 16:24, 7th January 2004:
I'm considering taking up the old DJing. Got a taste for it after promoting some nights and getting slots for people, etc.
(not the same type of music Grim does though)

Eurgh. Club music. Techno Techno Techno Techno. Lets all drop an E so we dont get so pissed off with this mundane repetition that we throw bottles at the fucking DJ. Eurgh.

You're not invited, Sul =]

erhaps you could come, and bring a walkman?
Posted by
Brock, 16:33, 7th January 2004:
i thought DJ's talked shit for 30 seconds, and then played Agadoo, followed by more talking shit, then the birdy song...
Or am I old?

Grim..., 16:33, 7th January 2004:
Oh God...
/see's what's coming...

Somebody had to say it...
sorry...
Posted by
Sul, 16:35, 7th January 2004:
Brock - you're not old, you've just been clubbing on Haven holiday camps a little too often
Posted by
Brock, 16:35, 7th January 2004:
Who are you calling camp?
Posted by
Brock, 16:36, 7th January 2004:
And anyway, I AM old...
Posted by
Grim..., 16:46, 7th January 2004:
And camp.
Real men don't get upset about their age =]
Posted by
Brock, 16:47, 7th January 2004:
Bitch.
Anyway, how does agreeing that i am old constitute getting upset?
Posted by
Grim..., 16:49, 7th January 2004:
The capital letters, man =]
Posted by
Brock, 16:51, 7th January 2004:
Emphasis. Not grumpy, hands on hips, lips pursed, one eyebrow raised, Graham Norton moment...
Posted by
Grim..., 17:07, 7th January 2004:
This is emphasis. Or
this. Maybe even *this* or _this_. THIS is shouting.
(And isn't empathy another word for 'care'?) =]

arsepuppy, 17:16, 7th January 2004:
It's a brand of soap. Or at least it should be.
Posted by
Grim..., 17:23, 7th January 2004:
Or a 'Female Hygine Product'.
"Empathy - the wafer-thin jam rag that cares*."
*and overflows.
Posted by
Brock, 17:34, 7th January 2004:
Can shouting not be considered emphatic?
Anyway, we are digressing. I refute the camp allegation. I was prepared to concede that I was old, but you can shove it up your arse now. I now consider myself a spring chicken of dazzling youthfulness.
So there.

Soundproofing should be mandatory for people who play those appalling mixtapes (the sort they play on TV channels like Q where they put tracks by Madonna and the Sex Pistols together and think it's cool).
Posted by
arsepuppy, 17:55, 7th January 2004:
Ah, the 'bootlegging' craze. So wrong.
Posted by
arsepuppy, 17:56, 7th January 2004:
If it doesn't involve prohibition-era America or making illicit recordings of gigs, then it ain't 'bootlegging'. Silly word-hijacking buggers.

arsepuppy, 18:01, 7th January 2004:
That reminds me of when, over Xmas me and Mrs AP went to a townie chain bar and the DJ played that Osymyso track made up of song intros (was it called Intro Inspection?). It *cleared* the dancefloor. Poor sod also tried to play the one by The Rapture to similar results.

tommorris, 18:03, 7th January 2004:
I wouldn't mind if they chose two good songs to mix together. But they always pick either two appalling songs or one good one and one bad one, thus either making an unlistenable mess (eg. Missy Elliot / George Michael) comprising two fairly bad songs or making a mix which takes a good song and makes it shit by adding the worst bits of a bad song (eg. Nirvana / Destiny's Child).

I find it odd that Q et al are still clinging on to a shaky fad from 2 years ago. It's like Dave Gorman doing that Googlewhack tour. Um, Dave.... hasn't the fad gone a bit there? He'll probably be doing "Dave Gorman's Flashmob Adventure" next. Oy Vey.

These are Sky TV channels. Expect nothing from them except crap and triviality.
erm... does this mean i'm accepted into your world of waffle then??
=o)
Posted by
cal, 08:56, 8th January 2004:
ooh, i suppose so
mmmmmmm world sized waffle......droooooooool
that would require a hell of a lot of beans to cover it.
Posted by
Grim..., 14:17, 9th January 2004:
I feel you are thinking of Potato Waffles, not 'normal' waffles.
Posted by
Sul, 14:19, 9th January 2004:
I missed the parade at eurodisney entirley because I was eating loads of waffles - FACT
Were they waffly-versatile?

Isn't there meant to be some sort of 'Cuckoo' noise after that?
Possibly, it's been a while.
