Poll:

  • It's the reason I get out of bed in the morning!!
  • I like it but I'd like it more if I got paid a decent wage
  • S'ok i guess..
  • I like to pretend I'm somewhere else so it's not so bad
  • I spend all day on iamcal in the hope that they'll fire me
  • can anyone say 'jobseekers allowance'?
  • KILL ME. KILL ME NOW. PLEASE.
Just curious to see how many people are actually happy with the jobs they do and what everyone's dream job would be?

I hate may job because I work for and with Nazi cretins.

I don't mind it. I hate the thought of it more than actually doing it. I went to uni with a view to working in a job that was environmentally beneficial. It's just that when you actually do it it's not all about stopping air pollution and exposing corrupt companies. Landfill sites ad quarries are not glamorous but they are damn important.

My ideal job would be the owner of a wine merchants and deli. I'd like to work there with my fiancee.

I love my job, although the boss has a real communication problem, he only ever seems to give 30% of the information I need to do anything.

My weekend job's great. I stand around bitching about the Assitant Manager, then sit in the office making nice spreadsheets.

my job pays too much. corporate slavery. they get you accustomed to a certain lifestyle so you cant leave. its not possible to work in mcdonalds or with stray kittens AND have a mulberry handbag habit and take 5 holidays a year (unless you collect the butlins tokens from the sunday sport) i only do it cos i happen to be good at it. erm and also because i'm a shopaholic

my job's pretty good, being in two teams in the one department is nice.
One department is front end web dev, the other is java. So i can balance things out a little - brain frying lines of code, followed by brain mellowing pretty pictures. woo!

and the money isn't great, but not too bad either. Best of all, i'm working with really nice people. makes all the difference.

I am doing an "assignment" at one of my Dad's companies, but it's really just an excuse to use the company internet all day. He had a grump at me yesterday because he caught me. Well, it's my job to be the splinter in his side so as far as I'm concerned I'm doing my job.

I can't really tell you about my job, as I would then have to kill you all.

Oh, what the hell, let's go for it, you only live once.

I used to be a training officer, which was quite a cool job as you got to chat up a lot of totty, but in the end I got sick of running the same courses all the time.

Then I had a job going around colleges, exhibitions, employers, etc. demonstrating open learning techniques, including interactive video and CBT (this was when all this stuff was pretty much in its infancy). That wasn't a bad job, cos I wasn't trying to sell anything specific, just an idea, so there were no sales targets to meet. And I got a lot of free meals ...... which was nice.

Then I got head hunted to be IT Manager when we installed our first network. It was a lot of fun to begin with, but over the years people have begin to expect more from IT and are harder to please. These days I have a phone system to play with as well as the IT network, and voicemail, and the call logger, and the security door system, and I get a few fun new toys to play with.

But my boss is a gadget freak. He sees something in another office and thinks we ought to have it, like fax-to-desktop. We spend a lot of money trying to get it going, even when we think it's a dog damn waste of money, and then he loses interest. The team I work with is good, we get on really well, which is a bonus, but some of the users are lusers and drive us crazy.

To summarise then, I'd rather be doing this than other jobs at the same level (and I wouldn't get the IT allowance if I left) so on balance I'm reasonably happy with it.

Who's first for the chop?

I hate my job, every single aspect of it!

I hate my job because everything is "hot". When I retire, I don't ever want to hear the words "can I get a priority on this?"

corpspeak is fantastic. Truly proactive people, who work smarter, not harder, can reap the benefits that such synergies can provide.

:oO - #$%$#$^*(%^*(^*^(* <- that's me throwing up at my own corporate cliches.

my real job was, looking after adults with learning dissabilities and challenging behaviour, but taking one beating too many, off them, has left me with a permanent back injury, and ineffect disabled myself, {the buggers got revenge for all the 10 mile walks I took them on}. Now I foster children who, through no fault of their own, were born to mothers who were smack heads, and dads who sexually abused them. I love my job with a passion and would'nt change it for the world, even though I dont actually get paid for doing it, I get a very good pension from the health authority.

As a totally random side conversation to this, the first poll option was used by me in an interview.

One of the questions asked was "What motivates you to get out of bed in the morning". I initially said "My alarm clock, it's loud", but the interviewer didn't seem impressed, so I said that I was only joking, and went on to say that it was actually doing a job that I really enjoyed. That answer got me the job, which was cool.
