Absolutely. It overshadows the Day of Misery before.

Uma, 13:47, 13th February 2004:
Yeah, it is bollocks, but it's quite sweet as well. It gives you a chance to send someone you like a card. It's romantic. Someone just sent me an email saying, "Valentine isn't just for lovers, it's for friends you love too!"
*sob*

I'm almost tempted to put a cool unromantic background on my site: hearts with daggers going through them, Barbie dolls getting the bandsaw treatment and Anne Widdecombe naked. Okay, not the last one, that's going too far, but anything to stop people going on about Valentine's Day.
Sending cards! No fucking way..so that some company can make money out of it, nope...I bought my g/f a very small orange tree..so the tree can grow withour relationship and love.
wheres the bucket!!!

That'll do.

Okay, Foggie, but if you're somebodies secret admirer, you can't send them an orange tree in the post? (maybe I should try that)
Posted by
WarHead, 14:12, 13th February 2004:
Foggie, are you not just in a bad mood because, as usual, you left it late to get a card for your squeeze and now the card shops are full of sad buggers like your good self figthing to get the ones that haven't got all creased or covered in fingermarks?
Wouldn't it just be less of a chore to buy and send a card than ranting for yonks about what a commercial rip off all these 'Days' are?
And BTW, No Valentine Card may = a kick in the bollocks.

tommorris, 14:18, 13th February 2004:
Yeah, but it's more fun to rant about how much of a ripoff it is than actually go to some hell on earth shathole like Clinton Cards.

Uma, 14:20, 13th February 2004:
Yup, or the funny ones that say, "I was going to get you a Valentine's orange tree, but it died so I got you this crappy card instead"

I must admit that I like to give my wife something that grows rapidly, on Valentine's Day.

Warhead, I am laughing very loudly at your "grows rapidly" comment; but unfortunately I find myself unable to express it.

Oh what the heck...
LOL!
WarHead, actually I bought a card last week butI did grumble about buying one.

Valentines day sucks the sweat of a dead monkeys balls.
And as for Clinton's Cards? I reckon they invented the bloody thing!
One more thing, why is the pressure on the blokes all the time to make the big gesture? That irritates me.
*applauds*
Well said young man, well said indeed!

Do you think so Brock? I always make an effort and I'm a woman. Not to say you have to spend a lot. But a nice candlelit dinner at home goes a long way. Just to make it different from any other day, make a nice dinner for someone and make them feel special. It's fun.
sorry.but i did laugh at the monkeys balls
I agree, it has been made commercial, BUT it is a great opportunity to be romantic ;)
some of us need excuses like that!
(P.S. WOOOOOOOOO Approved)
(P.P.S. Went clubbing in london on wednesday night... just got back :S)

Hey, Welcome back! Did you enjoy yourself?
Very..... drunken! Danced the night away, and
got chatted up by a couple of gay men.. slightly worrying!
Great spending some quality (if non-romantic)
time with Jen. Also made roast dinner for a flat full of students
yesterday! How's everyone here? any friday 13th bad luck
going on yet?

Uma, 16:01, 13th February 2004:
No, but I have my rabbits foot and horse-shoe in my handbag! (kidding!)
You were chatted up by some gay men? Whhhooooo! That's just the kinda stuff I like to hear! Tell, tell!
Erm... they chatted to me, nothing too blatant, but it was obvious
what they had in mind! I made my excuses and ran away! It always happens
to me! I think it's mainly because i get very friendly when i drink!
Also got chatted up by some lay-dees at the bar, but, also made my excuses!
Probably wouldn't have been approrpiate with Jen there!

No, not at all. You must be quite attractive if keep getting hit on! I was hit on once by a lesbian, and it's quite disconcerting. One doesn't quite know what to say. Plus, once, when I was *really* drunk (vodka!) it was at a party, I went to lie down on someone's bed and this woman said she came to see if I was alright and I made a pass at her! I don't remember it at all...that's how drunk I was. Very embarassing! Does vodka make one horny or is it just me?

The other bloody thing about Valentines, is that if you are single (which, incidentally, has nought to do with my dislike of it), you can't go out anywhere! It's all either couples-orientated crap, or singles/meat market rubbish with all the freaks in full-on limpet mode... No normal people anywhere to be found...
Bah bloody humbug.

Uma, 16:41, 13th February 2004:
I am too scared to ask for your thoughts on Christmas!
The only thing worse than being single tomorow is being "on a break"!
MMMMM, ambiguity! Don't ya just love it!?
Posted by
WarHead, 17:07, 13th February 2004:
Well why not have a break from your break on this special day and have some hot'n'steamy sexual congress? I bet she wants to.
Posted by
Uma, 17:08, 13th February 2004:
Seduce her, Perci, you know you can.
You know...
Agh, its messy! We were chatting yesterday, its like, we want to, but it would be the worst thing we could do, so we both agreed not to let it happen for a while..
and then she went and wondered around in a t-shirt all night.. a t-shirt and undies, and thats IT!
raaaaaaaaa
This girl's trying to kill me...

Uma, 17:14, 13th February 2004:
Ah, the joys of sexual tension...keep it going like that for ages, it will be all the better when you both succumb.
If i don't just die first! :p
Right, i'm off to work (i'm a barman, i start when you all go home!)
I guess most of you won't be on again until monday?
Posted by
Uma, 17:18, 13th February 2004:
No, some of the others also talk on the weekend, but not me.

Uma, 17:20, 13th February 2004:
Ciao, Perci...
Well, i look foreward to monday then :) Have a great weekend Uma, and everyone else!
I in a relationship and I refuse to celebrate this day. It is fucking stupid. I think I am the only female that thinks this. It is over commercialized and I am sorry but I rather my man spend 100 bucks on something we could use vs flowers that are overpriced and die in two days, dinners that suck ass and you have to wait 3 hours before you get seated and many more reasons why. He shows his love for me everyday and that means more to me then just having it celebrated on one day.

WarHead, 19:56, 13th February 2004:
Hear, hear. And a damn good rogering finishes off the day perfectly.
i hate valentines. cos it makes a man think he doesnt have to buy me flowers and stuff the other 364 days of the year. which is just wrong!

my man and I tell each other every day how much we love each other,I don't need to wait until february 14 to tell him.
I agree, but... its nice to have an excuse to do something extra special, cus if you do something every day of the year, it soon becomes "the norm" and stops becoming special. I'm not saying you HAVE to wait until Feb 14th, and i'm not saying that its the only time you should but, its a nice gesture!
Seems silly not to take the opportunity to show your partner that you're willing to put in some extra effort for them, just out of principle, no?
