Ah, poor net Minidisc.. Sony are very proud of their security work on it. AFAIK there's absolutely no way around using their crippleware to get music on and off your MDs. :(
Curses, you win this round Sony *shakes fist*

surely you could just get a male-male lead and plug the headphones into the microphone socket on your laptop? (bearing in mind I have never touched a minidisc in my life, this is bound to be wrong)

ah there is a way round this problem! i have a net md and found out how to do it but then realised i really had no need to transfer my music to other computers so i'd be doing it for the sake of it.
Anyway, it involves bypassing the open mg jukebox software by writing disk images so that when you copy it to the minidisc it doesnt have the encryption on. It all sounded a bit complicated but definately do-able.
I'm sure with the help of google and minidisco.com you could find the info you need. (i'd send you a link but it was nearly 2 years ago that i got mine)
I think AD's trying to do it the other way though jeff(if not then
www.pctechtalk.com/view.php?id=1304 should help), she's recorded her mix from decks or something else and wants to get them on her laptop. I've heard that you can transfer music to netMD(so maybe from too, I've never used it, sorry) players using a realplayer plugin, but I'm not sure whether or not that has the same restrictions as openMG. The only other way that i can see that might work is sal's way, attach the MD to your microphone or line in socket and record it from that.
i've tried uninstalling the cacky software but then cant even open the drive that the minidisc is on. b&*%^$£" mr sony. i no happy bunny

yeah i guess that way round you'd have to input manually, which is a shame. I have actually used an optical line in to my hifi then line into my computer from there. all seems like a lot of faff. you should've got a basic regular minidisc and an ipod ;)
i got it cos i wanted to burn my mix cd's from my laptop. hey ho.
thanks guys x

doh! maybe you could take it back? you might have to exchange it for store credit but you could get yourself a lovely mp3 player or a usb storage device instead?
