Internet Explorer
I've heard a lot of good things about opera actually, like strict compliance with HTML 4.01
and all that. If a page doesn't view right in opera, its probably down to shoddy coding
on the site, as opposed to a bug. So neah brock. IE and Netscape are the culprits!

I dunno, I didn't pay for mine, and it's not the latest version, but it has an ad banner at the top that you can't switch off unless you pay to register .... supposedly ... but I also got the register key cracker so I could get rid of the banner without crossing their palms with silver.

Posted by
WarHead, 13:44, 5th March 2004:
In my experience Opera loads most pages considerably faster than Explorer, and it can handle most graphics. However, you can toggle graphics off it the site your visiting has too many and you just want to get the text downloaded quickly.
Pop-ups are a bastard on porn sites. So many damn windows opening faster than you can shut them. Which is why I like Opera so much. And it's easy to toggle pop-ups back on if you go to a site that actually needs them for something useful.
Of course ;)
Ok, so why is dreamweaver writing code on my page that is only compatible with IE?

But dreamweaver sucks!

Once again, personal preferance people ;)

dreamweaver MX is nice, doesnt add any crap and if you use it in dual view you can edit code ala notepad whilst getting instant feedback in the other window. plus it automates all the dull parts of making tables, even links you can just drag and drop.
it saves so much time.

Thankyou alfie, thats EXACTLY the way i use it, little code view up the top.

I wouldn't know, i just have MX, since i'm only just getting into this whole web thing.

Cuh! And can your web pages be viewed on Netscape 1.0?
No.
Mine could. Until I got a new computer and lost my copy of Netscape 1.0.
But until then, I wasn't putting any code in that excluded 1.0 viewers.
Mmm, because times new roman is SO attractive :p

bearing in mind i dont do anything beyond basic HTML. I mean positioning graphics and tables and the like. Doing just that is far quicker in dreamweaver. i mean dragging and dropping a picture takes far less time in dreamweaver than if i were to have to type it out by hand

Alfie, 18:07, 5th March 2004:
i'm sure if i were to attempt anything more complex than it probably would be faster for someone who knows what they are doing to code it by hand.

also if i had a site with a few basic HTML pages, and a menu with links to every page and i wanted to move some of the pages into a new folder i can do that in dreamweaver and it will instantly update all my links to make sure they still work. Now maybe you can open each file in notepad, find and replace all the links and save the files again in under a second, but I can't.

I think some people genuinely prefer notepad (or basic code editing programmes) because they're easier for them to use.
On the other hand I think some people use notepad and the like because they want to appear 'ghetto' and cool "wysiwyg apps are like, totally for morons, i'm rilly clever"
I use dreamweaver and i'm not ashamed. i don't really like coding but if i have to do it, then i'd rather use something that makes it easier for me.
Posted by
Alfie, 01:07, 6th March 2004:
ok, i'll agree with that :)
very diplomatic miss trim :)
I just don't like html editing programs.
But then, have any of you ever seen a website I've made?
I was initially taught to code web pages in notepad so that's why I do it that way. Also I still find DW etc a bit flaky. If I'm doing php or xml stuff I may use something like Jpadpro or something just because it does the whole coloured syntax thingy which is good for weeding out typing errors and such. For me at least.
