Google has had a new perty re-vamp/cosmetic-y type thing. What do you reckon?

Aimed particularly at Alfie, cos I reckons he sleeps with a google logo under his pillow...

Bit of a "Anne Robinson Facelift", innit?

(i.e. pretty much fuck all difference, just slightly rearranged...)
Posted by Brock, 18:47, 29th March 2004:

I wasn't sure the first time that I used it today if it had changed, or if my browser was having a spaz attack. that's how different it is. It does all look like it was hardly worth the effort/expense, personally.

a bit like Anne Robinson's facelift, then.

You've made that gag already. Just above my previous post, fuckwit.

Have you hit the lever on your chair gas strut again? There's a whole new world in the top half of the screen you've been missing, dude...

Posted by Brock, 19:06, 29th March 2004:

Anyway, It's not the same, cos google didn't look like a wrinkly hell-hound-bitch before or after. So there.

Right, BitTorrent is eating my bandwidth and making this page impossible to F5 quick enough, so for now, i'm going to leave my computer to do it's thing and go do something interesting!
Posted by arsepuppy, 19:13, 29th March 2004:

I still have no fucking idea what BitTorrent is :(
Posted by Perclissigi, 19:20, 29th March 2004:

I'll let you know if it works in a couple of hours (when what i'm downloading has finished...er.. downloading!
Posted by Alfie, 19:40, 29th March 2004:

Bittorrent is my gateway to Quantum Leap episdoes and Twin Peaks.

and as for google, as long as they havent done a Cal style revamp to the actual search system then i dont care. I barely noticed the difference.

I use TorrentStorm which is an interface for bittorrent and that has lots of options. must have downloaded about 50 or 60GB of stuff on it. it's super dooper
Posted by cal, 19:48, 29th March 2004:

fuck you - last time you complained that my searcgh didn;t work, we noticed that the search you were trying *did* match the page you were looking for.
Posted by Alfie, 19:49, 29th March 2004:

:P
Posted by Alfie, 19:50, 29th March 2004:

yeah but google would be harder to use if every search you did, half the entries were parts of hitch hiker's guide to the galaxy :P
Posted by WarHead, 19:50, 29th March 2004:

Even Teflon heads make mistakes then.
Posted by cal, 19:52, 29th March 2004:

that's true

the new google looks really shit though
Posted by arsepuppy, 19:52, 29th March 2004:

Alf: Have you watched any Twin Peaks yet?
Posted by arsepuppy, 19:53, 29th March 2004:

Posted by Alfie, 19:55, 29th March 2004:

Gaaay.

AP: Has our pop culture referencing really come to this? Quoting lines from a trailer for a film made by the cast of Spaced?
Posted by arsepuppy, 20:02, 29th March 2004:

I must have done it subconciously.... Erk!

(I was making a crap "Teachers/Teachers Scotch Whiskey" joke, although we'll stick with your interpretation)
Posted by Alfie, 20:05, 29th March 2004:

I like yours, it's slightly less sad.

I used to be able to find anything on this site, but the new search thingy is a nightmare imho
Posted by Alfie, 22:54, 29th March 2004:

for example if you do a search for fish, on the first page of results there is one from iamcal (this place) and one from a profile on iamcal, the rest are from other places like the londonbloggers thing and some other bits and bobs.

Cal couldnt you put an option in just to search the iamcal forum rather than the whole iamcal network? Thats the only thing that throws me, having to filter the results myself
Posted by cal, 23:43, 29th March 2004:

now *that's* a sensible idea.

done - how's that?
Posted by Perclissigi, 23:43, 29th March 2004:

can i just say...
FUCK ME THAT WAS FAST!
Posted by reitsma, 00:38, 30th March 2004:

i *heart* google.
Posted by Alfie, 01:05, 30th March 2004:

that is perfect Cal. my hat goes off to you. :)
my searching sanity has been restored
Posted by Sul, 01:31, 30th March 2004:

I'm not too keen on the new google. It seems almost... squashed. :/
Posted by Alfie, 01:42, 30th March 2004:

why mess with the old one. that was perfect.
Posted by Alfie, 01:48, 30th March 2004:

its the
Advanced Search
Preferences
Language Tools
being on the side that bugs me. they look out of place and destroy the symmetry of it
Posted by Alfie, 03:07, 30th March 2004:

also needs a picture of a kitten on it like the calbar which died a sad death
Posted by Doctor Lucid, 13:07, 30th March 2004:

kitten? catbar?

My vote is split between Richard Tham!!! and Better. I don't like the front page, but I like the results pages more.
Posted by tommorris, 18:01, 30th March 2004:

Better than the new design is the fact that there have been some syntactic changes to how searches take place.
