You should try Flickr. It's melting my head talking to this OZ chick.

The profile says 30 years old, the language/content says not...
Posted by WarHead, 13:19, 15th May 2004:

Older or younger, in your opinion?
Posted by Brock, 13:29, 15th May 2004:

Younger. By about 30 years I think.

Unless 30 was the IQ.

Am I not allowed to abuse you in public then, Warhead?

It won't be on the level of the Moitio deal, I assure you.

You chastised me almost immediately, I was quite surprised.
Posted by WarHead, 14:21, 15th May 2004:

That wasn't a serious chastisement, just an observation. Abuse away, but don't expect me to reciprocate.
Posted by WarHead, 14:25, 15th May 2004:

Also, I don't think Flickr will accept the same level of abuse we get away with here.
Posted by su, 14:51, 15th May 2004:

actually yes it does - just not in central sometimes
however thats why god or cal created other channels
Posted by Brock, 18:14, 15th May 2004:

I am quite able to judge the acceptable level of abuse in any given circumstance, Warhead. A touch patronising, perhaps. If I didn't have that social skill, I would imagine that I would have been knifed in the face long before I reached 31.

The extreme level of abuse is part of the joke on here though, isn't it? It's almost a parody of itself in it's viciousness. Excepting fully justified roasting of fuckwit newbies, obviously. That's just right and fair.

It is also helped by the level of familiarity that people have with each other on here. This is actually a fairly close community if you judge it objectively. I would say that most of the regulars know each other (or at least their log-in persona) pretty well. That would come with time in flickr, but would require, like Su says, a degree of control over the participants. I wouldn't want to chat all the time with 13/14 year old L33tr fuckwits any more than they would with me, and I'm sure we would irritate the shite out of each other rapidly.

As I knew you were used to a certain level of abuse being considered 'harmless' and potentially 'amusing' on here, I thought that a light sprinkling of the above would not have been necessarily innapropriate. After all, we know each other within the confines of iamcal. it wouuld be up to us, surely to judge if that was offensive to either of us. If anybody alse was bothered by it, a simple "it's ok, we know each other" should diffuse the situation. In a chat room it is different, I am aware, you have to consider other people a bit more of course. I don't care, for instance, if someone is offended by the shit that Abe and myself exchange on here, although it would matter to me if he was taking it the wrong way, or just badly. I was under the impression that a light "ribbing" made both of us laugh.

This is in no way to be confused with a light 'rimming'. Leave that sort of thing to Frohman and his 'special friends'.

I couldn't be sensible all the way through. I have a reputation to uphold

:)

Sorry. This became a random flickr orientated thread. If it doesn't make sense to you, don't worry, it did to the people that were on there at the time.

Ho hum.

Next!?

Brock: I am quite able to judge the acceptable level of abuse in any given circumstance, Warhead.
.......

Like I said, it was really just an observation. You may or may not have noticed that I don't go in for overtly abusive talk in a big way in here. And I generally ignore most of the abuse aimed at me, unless I'm in the mood for some fun confrontation. I prefer to attempt a witty putdown instead. Sometimes it works, sometimes it's just not that witty. That's just my styleeeeeee.

Flickr is a different forum altogether. The impression I've had so far is that the level of abuse we're used to here would be inappropriate there. I don't spend much time in the live chat rooms anyway; it's usually far too confusing and I'm not that interested.

If you thought I was overdoing the chastising, I apologise, which is something else I am quite happy to do when I occasionally fuck up.

To sum up, don't worry about it. It's no big deal.

Apolo.... apologgg....?

What's that? Do I need to get one? They sound complicated.

;)
Posted by WarHead, 01:55, 16th May 2004:

It's surprisingly easy, actually, but it's not necessary in this forum.
Posted by Brock, 01:58, 16th May 2004:

Good. That's a fucking weight off my shoulders.
Posted by WarHead, 02:02, 16th May 2004:

I can sleep easy now I know you won't spend all night worrying about this. In other words, I'm off to bed. Be seeing you.

What you two get up to between yourselves is your own business.
Posted by su, 10:49, 16th May 2004:

poor Abe
have you tried asking him to be more gentle with you
Posted by Brock, 10:54, 16th May 2004:

It's difficult to be gentle when you're packing something reminiscent of a baby's arm holding an orange. The sheer weight of it can be difficult to control.
Posted by Saltation, 13:14, 16th May 2004:

try peeling the baby off the back of it
Posted by Brock, 14:10, 16th May 2004:

And what the hell would I do with an orange?
Posted by Saltation, 14:33, 16th May 2004:

words briefly failed me, so am compiling a list
Posted by Saltation, 14:34, 16th May 2004:

if anyone else wants to add to this list, just jot your suggestions down on the back of a baby and shove it down the front of brock's trousers
Posted by Saltation, 14:35, 16th May 2004:

...being careful of the orange when you do, natch
