Does my fuckin head in!!!

Yeah, they're just over there causing trouble.
Over there kicking the shit out the english press and comentators more like!
Fuckwits!

The nationality of the English fans, however, is still British. The story is consequently being accurately reported, unless I missed something. There wasn't anything else in it that suggested Scottish/Irish or Welsh involvement.
Methinks thou art being a touch over sensitive, Foggie.

nah he's on to something there - the radio station over here has been crazy, all the irish are supporting anyone but england.
english callers keep ringing in, deeply offended and pointing out there is some underlying racism from all nationalities to the english, based off things that past generations did.
ireland is a very racist place though.

Foggie: I meant the Scots, Welsh and Irish over there were just causing trouble. The English Britons involved at least had football violence as an excuse.

They've all got a case of the jolly green giants.

ho ho ho.
Bear in mind the curious phenomenon where Welsh athlete wins gold medal and is named as 'British' whereas Scottish athlete tests positive for naughty drug activities and is named as 'Scottish athlete'.

Brock, 00:21, 16th June 2004:
Yeah, but in fairness, if a 'Welsh' person wins anything, you have to doubt the purity of their blood line, surely?
Nobody Welsh amounted to
anything. FACT!
(except maybe Tom Jones).

Is that why you can relate to him?

Better than I can relate to the 'Snowman' kid - at least Secombe was funny.

And Ryan Giggs.

Ryan Giggs was funny?
Maybe there's more entertainment in this football lark than I gave it credit for...

You should have a look. Here I languish in the US, having to pay $20 per match if I want to see one and you're sitting there with the same game on 3 channels most likely, and watching some of that "British comedy" instead.
Life is cruel.

Brock, 23:18, 17th June 2004:
hahahahahahahahahaahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!
Yanks trying to take the piss out of British Comedy!!! Ow, my fucking sides!
The reason you lot don't get it, is because of the use of intellectual gags, and heavy doses of irony.
Obviously for the duration of this argument, I am ignoring the existence of "The Benny Hill show", "Hi-de-hi" and "Coupling"

Neat link between recent posts and eight previous:
"Aled Jones with walking in the air, although that of course is incorrect on every concievable level"
Or something like that. It's off phoenix nights whatever he says.

I'll have to watch our Public Broadcasting System channel that runs the "British Comedies" and run some of the titles by you for critique. I'd hate to think that the crap they play is what you folk actually like to watch.

Some of the shit that you lot ship over here is billed as the best US comedy available. Sickly horseshit with an over-enthusiastic laughter track, and patronisingly strong moral content.
Posted by
Jason, 23:41, 17th June 2004:
give some titles
I found one of the ones I wondered about on pbs.org called "Last of the Summer Wine". This is funny stuff or geriatric fluff?

And no discernable comedy element.

Jason: It was written as a comedy for gentle watching by the fire to mildly amuse all generations on a Sunday Evening. It did a fairly good job for the first series or two, by all accounts.
As is common though, the horse was veritably flogged to comedic barren-ness.
[note to self: REFRESH old pages before posting...]
wuv it was irony re bwock's post
last of the summer wine, from an aussie's perspective, is wrist-slashingly tedious
i always liked the reaction of a yank i met in brissie way back when. he'd introduce himself, cringe at the reaction when we heard his accent, and ask that "you not judge a nation by the quality of the television it exports"
"neighbours", for gods sake
mind you: kylie

Huh. Maybe I'll give it more than the cursory glance next time I come across it. Would be hella suprise if that show was funny all in all after the bits and pieces I've caught.
Give me some US titles that are billed as "the best US comedy available" that in fact suck - I'd be very interested to know

It's not me who hates coupling Brock. I think Jeff is a top character.
I hate Coupling.
Jeff is the obligatory 'Phoebe' character that any sitcom MUST HAVE in the post 'Friends' era.
Scrubs however, fucking rules.

I've caught a bit of scrubs and dig it as well.
I did manage to catch the last 20 minutes or so of either "Last of the Summer Wine" or "Waiting for God" last night and I was absolutely bored to tears. I was only slighty amused at the innocence of it, it was indeed geriatric bleh. I think we covered that sort of humor in the US in the 50's with "Leave it to Beaver" and the like.
I wanted to like it and I don't mind telling you I was kind of excited and expecting to be culturally enriched. I was disappointed.
I like Python and the Goodies, I'll give you that, but from the stuff they show on TV over here, you'd think there's no young people in the UK (or thespians for that matter).
i always thought "Leave it to Beaver" was porn
