The title should read eBeer, damn Cal and his love of ucfirst().

So, eBeer - help me out here.
I'm thinking people can sign up and choose to send the money for a beer to a friend.

How could this be done?

A database of the cost of different beers (in the UK to start with), so someone could pick a drink to send to their friend.

After that we link into paypal (or others, depending on what the reciever has specified) to send the cash.

What do people think?
Would you use it?
Posted by Alfie, 11:34, 29th June 2004:

shit.
no.

shit no.
Posted by Grim..., 11:35, 29th June 2004:

Why not?
Posted by Alfie, 11:35, 29th June 2004:

I however am not your target audience as I don't drink beer.

If someone wanted to send one ebeer to someone then the paypal thing charges you if you want to convert small amounts to real money don't they?

I use virtual Threshers.

Oh, actually it's actual Threshers.
Posted by Grim..., 11:38, 29th June 2004:

Yes, but not much, about 4p I think.

/goes to check...
Posted by Alfie, 11:41, 29th June 2004:

you should check and then factor that in to the cost of each beer to send. else people will get upset at having to pay to get their money.

Also have you factored in the cost of getting a beer in central london or the south-east/midlands, compared to the same beer in the north. or even abroad.

you could have country specific pages for beers that are only available in certain places.

cant you just go down the pub and buy one?
what about licensing laws? there's those people who you ring up who bring round booze but they sell crates of it at a time so it counts as wholesale and is exempt from licensing laws.

i think its a bit of an antisocial idea to be honest.
Posted by Grim..., 11:42, 29th June 2004:

Hmm - it's free to send the money, but it costs you money (25p) to take it out into your bank.

It free in the US and Germany, which I find odd.

More info here.

Jeff - the whole idea started when I thought I should buy Salutation a beer, but I don't have a clue who he is. It's for online friends.

Alf - As long as you live in London you normally know where to get resonably priced beer from. I'll just take the national average.
Posted by Grim..., 11:45, 29th June 2004:

As for licensing laws, you're sending money, not alcohol.
Posted by jeff, 11:51, 29th June 2004:

if anyone sent me money i wouldnt spend it on beer.
Posted by Grim..., 11:57, 29th June 2004:

That's up to you, isn't it?
Posted by Alfie, 12:29, 29th June 2004:

jeff would spend it on porn.
Posted by WarHead, 12:31, 29th June 2004:

Why do that when you can get it for free on t'internet?
Posted by Alfie, 12:35, 29th June 2004:

I meant paying for a photographer to shoot it.

Oh no, I was thinking of someone else.
Posted by Saltation, 12:41, 29th June 2004:

e-Beer!

Posted by Hanni, 12:48, 29th June 2004:

Posted by Saltation, 12:50, 29th June 2004:

not so fast there, young hanni: it's your round
Posted by jeff, 13:03, 29th June 2004:

alfie who on earth are you talking about?!

besides if i wanted to shoot porn they'd have to pay ME to do it, not the other way round.

i'd spend the money on chocolate. (well i would today at any rate)
Posted by Saltation, 13:11, 29th June 2004:

mmmm chocolate porn

I move into my new place on monday. I just rejected the Liverpool Street cable management package. I watched 'City of God' the other day. I've got five Stellas left in the fridge. I've just been for a smoke.

Other than that, not much. You?
Posted by Saltation, 15:04, 29th June 2004:

"Liverpool Street cable management package"
as in, the london {tube,} station?
Posted by Rosie, 15:06, 29th June 2004:

My washing machine broke. A spider fell on my head when I was in bed on Saturday morning. My sister has gone on holiday. I've just munched a throat sweet and its now stuck in my back teeth. I've been entered in a Readers Digest Prize Draw.

Life is plodding along ok at the minute. :)
Posted by Victor Menendez, 15:08, 29th June 2004:

Good oh.

And yes, London {tube,} station.
Posted by Saltation, 15:14, 29th June 2004:

i live about 100m away and have spare beer and a roof terrace. if you're round and bored on a sunny arvo you should stick your head in
Posted by Rosie, 15:14, 29th June 2004:

Posted by Saltation, 15:16, 29th June 2004:

o_O
Posted by Rosie, 15:22, 29th June 2004:

Yeah! It is your own place or are you sharing with other people?
Posted by Victor Menendez, 15:23, 29th June 2004:

Sharing it with a bloke from work.
Posted by Victor Menendez, 15:23, 29th June 2004:

He doesn't HAVE to join in though.
Posted by Brock, 15:26, 29th June 2004:

Although you may be able to make some beer money from it all, Vic.
Posted by Rosie, 15:26, 29th June 2004:

Its better one-on-one.

Not funny leather stuff or rubber gear - but pretty, girly things. Theres a new Ann Summers shop in town I might look in.

Ho hum. This afternoon is dragging.
Posted by Foghorn Leghorn, 15:47, 29th June 2004:

crotchless panties?
Posted by Rosie, 15:51, 29th June 2004:

they're not very tasteful are they?! I don't want to send out the wrong signals Foggie!
Posted by Foghorn Leghorn, 15:52, 29th June 2004:

thats a good point Rosie because "Do you still fancy a f*ck Vic?" does send out the correct signals.

:/
Posted by Foghorn Leghorn, 15:53, 29th June 2004:

Plus, if you have a 'inny' they look rather nice...but if you have a 'outy' then best not.
Posted by Rosie, 15:56, 29th June 2004:

I have an "inny".

Hang on- are we talking about belly buttons here?
Posted by jeff, 15:57, 29th June 2004:

i think he's talking about oversized flaps.
Posted by Victor Menendez, 15:57, 29th June 2004:

Actually Fogster, "Do you still fancy a f*ck Vic?" sends out some pretty good signals from where i'm sitting.
Posted by Victor Menendez, 15:58, 29th June 2004:

Oh well put Jeff, you classy bitch.
Posted by Rosie, 16:02, 29th June 2004:

I have normal sized flaps - i think.
Posted by Foghorn Leghorn, 16:03, 29th June 2004:

of course its good signals to you Vic!

Rosie, whats Jeff says.
Posted by Brock, 23:24, 29th June 2004:

Rosie: compared to what?

747, or cornflake box?
Posted by su, 23:24, 29th June 2004:

oversized flaps?
what are oversized flaps?
so if a girl has then, you'd say no?
Posted by Brock, 23:25, 29th June 2004:

If she kept tripping on them it would put me off a little bit.
Posted by jeff, 00:09, 30th June 2004:

pink. glove.
Posted by jeff, 00:16, 30th June 2004:

and yes, i'm a dead classy bird. but it's not really hard to guess what he was on about (i've never heard them referred to as outies before?!), i mean what would look a bit gross in a pair of crotchless knickers? (apart from a man)..
i dont really see the point in them, you might as well just forgo the pants altogether..
Posted by Brock, 09:00, 30th June 2004:

You really are great, Jeff.

:D
Posted by WarHead, 09:03, 30th June 2004:

She does have a point though, from a practical point of view anyway. But I suppose it's different if you're only wearing them for recreational purposes.
Posted by Saltation, 10:26, 30th June 2004:

as opposed to professional purposes?
Posted by Brock, 10:30, 30th June 2004:

You may be pushing your luck, there...
