We seem to be having a slow period on here for the last few months, with the odd days of bursts of activity. Over the last 6 months, a lot of good quality people have fallen by the wayside, and the majority of the new people (save those that came from flickr) have turned out to have little to give by way of amusing and intelligent input.
Anybody got any ideas? How can we attract decent people to liven it up without:
a: attracting idiots
b: getting said new people sacked by getting them addicted to here
c: um...not have to put much effort into it.
I know I have banned a lot of people, although I stand by my assessement that they were all penis's of the highest order, but we could do with some fresh blood to flesh out the ranks, methinks. Then the occasional idiot would be welcome, to abuse for a while.
Thoughts?

I actually have a serious idea. Tomorrow I'll ask the wonderful sal, assuming she doesnt read this first, to switch the 47 answers thread into an intro. Then perhaps the people a little intimidated by the selection process will be able to give a frank account of themselves without having to try and think of something witty to post in a thread of their own.

That also sounds like crazy talk! The fact that this site is linked so well from goggle is one of my favourite things about it.

I dunno that we would have banned you on your first posts, Moc. When you've been away a while, you normally post something admittedly completely off the wall, but I know it makes the likes of the mods and the admins and a few others laugh (except maybe Sal, I don't know enough about her sense of humour cos she doesn't post much). It generally (and I shall say this only once!) shows that someone with a brain wrote it.
You only go into pseudo script kiddie when you are taking the piss out of another one, usually. There have only been one or two that I have thought that maybe I have been hasty in banning, but in hidsight I really doubt that they would have been anything more than passing amusement. I was hoping that we could attract some mmore of the quality posters rather than more dross.

moc's right. he might not have been banned back-then, but he would be banned NOW with a moc-style first-post.
point in case: my first post would be seen by a lot of iamcallers as moc-like (warhead assumed i was an alterego) and i was immediately banned. if cal hadn't remembered me from a previous e-contact, that would have been it. i wouldn't have bothered returning. itchy trigger fingers might be funny from the inside but they send quite a different signal to newcomers.
