This was posted on the Nissan 200SX owners' club website last night:
Was pulled over last night by a copper who'd followed me for a couple of miles and breathalysed. Bearing in mind I could barely stand it was no surprise to find I was massively over the limit.
This was particularly disgraceful as I had the missus and kiddy with me in the car. I was arrested and read my rights. It was all a very salutary experience, especially when the copper got shirty because I found the whole business side-splittingly funny.
His mate, whilst the arrest took place went and had a good look round the car, came back and started whispering to the other copper.
They are whispering frantically at each other and neither of them look very pleased.
Copper turns to me and starts accusing me of wasting police time, he calls me a twat. I point out he's just sworn at a member of the public, in front
of an 18 month old child and that I'll report him for conduct unbecoming.
Plod get back in their car and drive off, with the copper who'd had a look round my car laughing his head off.
And the moral of the story for the police is....
Always check whether a car is left or right hand drive before breathalysing the guy in the right hand seat.
I'd have sent him to the big house anyway. We all know what happens in the big house.

You visit the 200SX owners club site a lot, do you, saddo?
I bet you go to the 3000GTO site too and stroke the screen, sobbing gently...

No, the SXOC were at Santa Pod this weekend, I was looking at the pictures.
What the fuck is a 3000GTO? Do you mean GT3000?

And you bloody owned one!

The badging on the Japanese versions (like wot I had) reads GT3000, so that's what it gets called.
They are also called GT3000's in Australia, which is where I'm looking at importing the next one from.
not a bad idea actually-- because the petrol's so much cleaner, australian cars don't rust like UK ones: it's not unusual to see 30 and 40 year old cars on the road in good nick.
now, if you want a REAL muscle car, import an holden monaro from oz. total petrol head heaven
Posted by
RUSS, 09:26, 28th July 2004:
bollox it has anything to with petrol!
more like it doesn't rain so much
not having much luck finding representative pics.
the new "monaro" is just a tweaked commodore. bleah.
www.webwombat.com.au/motoring/news_repor... still, 5.7 litre V8's nothing to sniff at (235KW, 460NM torque, 60mph @ 1,450rpm :)
but the 70s ones...

last one is 450hp, apparently
actually russ, it IS the petrol. the sulphur content is stratospherically high in britain. BMW tried a wholly new engine a few years ago and it worked brilliantly globally except in the UK, where every new car went through on average 3 engines under warranty.
more generally, the sulphur makes the air quite caustic. new metal will rust within a week or two of unrained summer exposure. cars here rust faster in unsalted unrainy london than they do on the queensland beaches where you get salt crust over your entire car most mornings and where it can rain more in a week than it does in england in a year. (last time i was there, the following week brisbane had 4 years' worth of england's rainfall, for example)

450bhp?
The top one must have more than that, surely.
My Mitsi was rated at 498bhp (close, damnit) on the dyno a week before it died =[
errr, sorry i wasn't clear, the "last one" in the series of photos is a tweaked 60s or 70s model. some of them can do wheelies

Those cars are a significant part of the reason I would want to live in OZ. Rear wheel drive monsters rule...
This reason goes along with the weather, beautiful countryside, lower cost of living, and the additional 10000 miles that it is from all my crazy exes. obviously.

Posted by
Brock, 14:05, 28th July 2004:
Yeah, yeah, we all know the clockwise/anti-clockwise flush bit is bollocks, it's completely random if the bowls are made symmetric.
Trust an antipodean to overplay their part of the world's high points.

it's not Vic
russ: why is the fuel different?
is the fuel different europe wide or is the fuel different here even from say france or spain?
varies by country and in the USA it varies by state.
the reason is pollution-control regulations. most countries specify maximum levels of various chemicals in fuel, including sulphur.
as to why: it's just the per-regime economic balance between crude oil input quality and regulated fuel quality.
it costs money to remove the sulphur. so companies take out as little as possible. in some cases it's uneconomic or even impossible to take some grades of oil to a state that a country will accept it. for example, some american states are so stringent they can only use petrol created from a very small subset of the available crude oils (which all vary surprisingly from different sources)
i think most of the EU have essentially similar sulphur controls, the UK essentially has none. california's controls are so stringent that bus exhaust actually smells SWEET. i shit you not. it's surreal.

Brock, 14:40, 28th July 2004:
It
is bollocks. We did the experiment with water down a plughole. There's no scientific reason that water would be in the slightest bit influenced in rotation when draining from a vessel.
We emptied a sink enough times to prove that it was actually random, and it went both ways. Try it yourself.
Posted by
su, 14:44, 28th July 2004:
you are so wrong wrong wrong mr brock
it's not any sink hole but a toilet bowl
and i guess you've tried this experiemnt out on both sides of the world?
as you'd need to to be totally sure

Grim..., 14:46, 28th July 2004:

is any old sink hole.
And I thought it was gravity, not rotation.

yeah do that, would be good to see it in its full glory. Oh, and yes , those wheels were awful.
Ohhh, my friend flushed the toilet on the plane when it was just passing over the equator to see what would happen.
All the water went up in the air. Seriously. She won't be doing that again.
that's because the plane was going faster than the sun, causing the hot water to rise. this effect is well known to all plainsdwellers and is put to good use to power spacefaring balloons which are lighter than vacuum and brighter than the some
