Discussion » Rebirth or Reboot?

This is a read-only copy. The forum ran on iamcal.com from 2000 until its database was lost in 2016, and this topic was rebuilt from copies saved by the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. Some replies may be missing, and its dates are approximate.

I note that there is talk on the iamcal flickr thread about the return of iamcal, from those not on the mailing list, who have seen the hints on the iamcal main page.

My questions:
Are these people going to be upset and feel like 2nd class citizens because they have been deprived of the iamcal 10 preview session?
Do we care?
Is it their own fault for not joining the mailing list, or was that by invitation only?
Will all these posts be wiped as the real new iamcal 10 goes online?
Was this interlude just for Cal's benefit to see if it's all working with multiple users?
Are we to be cruelly deleted?
Shall I stop typing now?
And again, does anyone care?

1: Who gives a fuck.
2: No, they patently are 2nd class citizens, or they'd be here
3: see 1
4: see 1
5: Probably
6: I dream of the day you get cruelly deleted
7: God, please yes.
8: No.

NEXT?

What? You're telling me this is just a preview session? Like some grotesque 'trailer' for what iamcoco is going to be? An opportunity for us to 'get back into shape' before the flood?

Goodness me, Brogue, it looks like you parted your hair on the wrong side this morning...
Posted by WarHead, around May 2005:

Whether or not this is just a preview, I hope more oldies resubscribe, cos you lot are getting boring.

And by oldies, I don't mean pensioners, I mean ex-iamcalers.
Posted by Brock, around May 2005:

I wish we were all as sparkling and fresh as you, old man of the North.

(bitch)
Posted by Alfie_DUPE1, around May 2005:

Me and Lucid are technically the oldest iamcal-ers here. (not including Cal)
Posted by Brock, around May 2005:

As in longest served, imagine.

Then it's Abe (for all his one post), then me, isn't it?
Posted by Alfie_DUPE1, around May 2005:

Longest served yes.
Although you Brock are a relative newcomer.

I remember when this was all fields.

etc.

I've been here a fair old while, though, despite my relative youth. I am trying to remember when my first post was, it was at least 18 months ago, it may even have been 2 years ago...

Can you shed light, Cal?
Posted by Alfie_DUPE1, around May 2005:

I believe my first post was some time in 2002 or maybe even 2001 after Cal's friend Warren sent me the site link for some reason. I still blame Warren.

is this seeing who's 'the most cool person' on iamcal?
or the 'most sad'?

i mean really i bet wh was here before evyone else, bet he's been on the interweb longest
Posted by Brock, around May 2005:

No, not at all.

I am patently the coolest mother fucker here, Warhead is the oldest, Cal's been here the longest (duh). There is very little room for debate.

And, um, you are the saddest, cos I don't live in New Zealand?
Posted by ellipse, around May 2005:

brock, without you i am crying buckets of tears, every day

tears
of
joy
Posted by Alfie_DUPE1, around May 2005:

yes brock you are indeed the coolest fucker of mothers here.
Posted by Doctor Lucid_DUPE1, around May 2005:

Have I really been around that long? I'm sure Alfie was here waay before me. I know I'm more recent than Brock and WH. Being-on-here-wise, anyway.

Where's Arsepuppy? Sul? Grim...? Rosie? Foggy? Beergoad? Timcollins? Freitag? Miki?

Posted by ellipse, around May 2005:

you mean the doc and uncle moc are the same person???
Posted by Alfie_DUPE1, around May 2005:

I fear he may have to kill me for exposing him in such a blatant way :(
Posted by Brock, around May 2005:

That's ok, because when the site goes public, his good friend Lucy Record can come and kick your arse for that blatantly harsh unveiling, Alfie.
Posted by WarHead, around May 2005:

Ellipse said, "i mean really i bet wh was here before evyone else, bet he's been on the interweb longest"

Um, I think it was 1991 or '92 when I first established a presence on the interweb. It wasn't EVEN green fields then.
Posted by Doctor Lucid_DUPE1, around May 2005:

It's okay.. I got in the same trouble when I let slip that Cal was Sul.

And anyway, there's a particular reclusive novellist who's going to come and shame you, Alfie. You're going to be one of midnight's children after that particular beans spillage.

The weight of it is starting to make my spine creak, too.

Me and my lady were in Oxford a month ago and after a few JD's, ended up in KFC, where I started a conversation with one of the people there. He was an arabic guy with a poor grasp of the English language. I asked him if we could have some of those paper hats they wear, and he didn't know how to respond. So he called down the manager. After talking to the manager for 10 minutes about it he then came back and asked me why I wanted them. My reply was "Cos they're cool, innit!". We now were the proud owners of some KFC hats.

Anyway, we thought it would be funny to pose in photos wearing these hats, but looking *very serious*, like those knobs in THE FACE. It took about 9 goes to do (she kept on laughing) but we got a couple done.

Brock: I was around before you. I remember that much. Basically, I remember you posting your intro thread on iamcal IX, so I must be 'older'. Hur.
Posted by Brock, around 22nd May 2005:

You remember my intro post?

You stalker! Do you have the screenshot on your desktop or something?

I for one feel a little left out, but then maybe i should have paid a bit more attention and made it on to the mailing list.
D'oh.
