So most people know about the new X-Box 360 and PS3, but Nintendo have just released some news about their next-gen machine...

"The console will have downloadable access to 20 years of titles originally released for Nintendo 64, SNES and NES."

Lordy.

The X-Box and PS3 sport some pretty impressive specs, and both have powerful CPU's, so it'll be interesting to see how they plan on keeping them cool. Nintendo look like they're going to be late with their new machine (again), but the backwards compatibility, along with the downloadable titles from 20 years back is a genius move.

PS3 is backward compatible all the way to PS1, which is impressive.
In regard to the coolness, both the Xbox 360 and PS3 are curved, meaning you can't stack things on them. I can't help wondering if that has something to do with the cooling.

good point. also they can both stand on their end or lay down. I would imagine that "on their end" would be better from a cooling point of view, as there is more room for the heat to dissipate. But then they have to work in both orientations so who knows. Liquid cooling would be nice but unlikely. :D If they want people to use them to play DVDs and CDs too then they had better be quiet, not noisy beasts.

PS2 could run on it's side, I think.

In fact, so could the PS1, and my Gamecube can too.

Perhaps they are going to be sold as "games console and portable heater"

I think they are 'Entertainment systems' now...
