I know it doesn't get mentioned on here often (and for good reason), but, after a shaky first half, Liverpool were awesome tonight.

I am very drunk as a result.

COME OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!
Posted by perclissigi, 26th May 2005:

I was working, but in a pub where they were showing the game.
And a very good game it was.
Although it should have been Chelsea...

Now now =]

I did actually see some of this football match. It was quite exciting. Bless that skillful goalkeeper.
Posted by robotnik, 26th May 2005:

I did my best to see it but was backing up from State of Origin rugby league match the night before ;l Tried to get to a pub to watch but woke up at about midday with the keys in the ignition and still in the garage. Sounds like it was a great game. The FA Cup was solid too, glory for Arsenal!
Posted by WarHead, 26th May 2005:

But he was jumping around all over the place before the ball was kicked. That's not allowed. FIFA should enforce the law strictly and all penalties should be retaken whenever that happens.
Posted by robotnik, 26th May 2005:

The game needs to move back in a direction that gives goalkeepers a chance. They've been gradually destroying any advantage a goalkeeper may have over the past thirty years. No passing back to the keeper, no holding it for more than 6 seconds, 4 steps etc. The goal is HUGE, good players should never miss. The odds are stacked highly against keepers and you want to stop them bouncing around in a penalty situation where about 1/10 are saved. Cruel bastard.
Posted by WarHead, 26th May 2005:

Indeed. And damn proud of it too.

All I'm saying is that until they change the rule, they should apply it rigidly.

However, I am against using penalties to decide the outcome of drawn matches. They should replay, like they did in the good old days, until one team wins within the allotted time.

Then again, I don't really like footy all that much anyway.
Posted by Grim..., 26th May 2005:

Are you sure it isn't allowed?
Posted by WarHead, 26th May 2005:

No.

But it didn't used to be. Maybe they have different rules in Europe. Do the French have anything to do with it?

Wait, i just googled it ...Rule 14 says "The defending goalkeeper remains on his goal line, facing the kicker, between the goalposts until the ball has been kicked."

Even if that doesn't preclude movement as long as he stays on the line, in this case the guy was a yard out before the ball was kicked on the first one he saved.
Posted by Grim..., 26th May 2005:

They have something to do with Europe, so I've heard.
Posted by Doctor Lucid_DUPE1, around 26th May 2005:

That was cool, his jumping up and down.

Steve Gerrard Gerrard
He likes it from fourty yards
He's tall and he's fuckin' hard
Steve Gerrard Gerrard
Posted by Victor Menendezz, 27th May 2005:

Actually, if he wants to, he can moonwalk right across the goal if he likes, as long as he stays ON the line, Dudek was leaping forwards like Jonathon Edwards.

And fair play to him.

Ha, ha, ha, ha ...... fourty yards. Nice try, Tom, but you're still learning the hard way.

Actually, tis the US spelling, innit...

Great game. Thought they'd had it at half-time. One hell of a fight back. Brilliant! :D
Posted by Brock, 27th May 2005:

"Actually, tis the US spelling, innit..."

Cos that makes EVERYTHING alright. Cunt.

And I think that you will find that 'US', in this and many other contexts, is just shorthand for 'wrong'.
Posted by perclissigi, 27th May 2005:

Brock...
Can I just say "you're wrong" without having to prove it?

What you got against American's anyway?
(Remember there's more of them than there are of you.)
Posted by WarHead, 27th May 2005:

I know what he'd like to get against Ms Entropy (an American).

Perc: They fuck up the English language, and spread it throughout the world and try to force it to be prevalent among English speakers through their intense arrogance. This makes me, and others that can speak properly, more than a tad annoyed. The fact that they try to spread such things as "color" "nite" "fetus" and other howlers as correct by sheer force of numbers of 'bad' usage is not good enough. Particularly when it is starting to reduce the level of correct English here.

"Ah, but wait. We decide it's right by calling it american English"

No. It's just English spelt badly. Fuckers. I don't care HOW many of them there are.

I had a row with a few people a while back about it... :)
Posted by WarHead, 27th May 2005:

Hello! Its all changed round here then! I had to create another log in! How has everyone been? I'm assuming you're all the same people....

;)
Posted by Saltation_DUPE1, 27th May 2005:

"sewing kit" : fucking BRILLIANT jeff

brock- interestingly, quite a lot of american spellings are actually MORE correct than modern english. eg, the "-ize" ending, and "aluminum" instead of (IMHO) the much better sounding aluminium.
having said that, i prefer the modern english version because dammit that's what *I* learned first!

Emma is hoping to move in very soon. I have a flat in Manchester now. She has a set of keys, and is over most weekends. In fact she is over for a week from today, and we are going away for a few days.
Posted by Rosie_DUPE1, 27th May 2005:

You 2 are so sweet! Does she still have her site? Can you give me the address? How come you live in manchester? I thought it was meant to be grotty there? I think I went there once - they have them tram things in the road and everything was grey and covered in sh*t.

Anyroadup, nice to see you again, I was wondering if you'd reappear some time.

HOW SWEET IS THAT???!!!

:D
Posted by WarHead, 27th May 2005:

Manchester has millions of trees. From my vantage point on the 11th floor in Piccadilly I can look out and see that we're surrounded on all sides by a sea of green. You can't really appreciate it from street level.
Posted by Rosie_DUPE1, 27th May 2005:

They may have millions of trees, but that doesn't make up for the fact they all talk funny.

The tables have turned! Hes got a full time job and earns double what I used to. I only work part-time now! Its great. I potter about doing the gardening and go out to lunch with my sisters and stuff! We've got a decent place now with two bedrooms and a big garden. Also, I'm pregnant and the babys due in November. I'm really happy for the first time in years!

Hows your family james?
Posted by jlittle_DUPE1, 27th May 2005:

Wow - that's fantastic Rosie - congratulations!

The family is great thank you - we now have two children, the second was born on the 13th May (2 weeks ago today infact - at this exact moment two weeks ago Lindsey would of just had her epidural and there would of been a lot less screaming than a few hours before hand!), named Jacob.

Do you know if you are having a boy or a girl? Where in London are you now living? I'm really excited for you now - what fantastic news. Congrats again.
