Why does the BBC have
this as the main news story on its site? Who really gives a toss this side of the Channel? Grr.
My god. I reckon Chirac's out within the year as well. Doesn't look good for Blair, as well, especially after the rejection of the EU constitution.

No, I'm not - and don't call me Shirley. :P
Much as I love politics, I also love the way that quite a relevant issue has been reduced into small type print.
fiiking french
racism is so easy to partake in. however the thing that makes me most concerned is people making a big fuss about something that doesn't affect their 'english way of life'. For goodness sake, Gary, I know I'm not supposed to provoke you, but what the hell are you talking about?
"My god, I can't believe those frenchers have voted against the european union. How can that be more important than anything going on in the UK at this point?" I know you probably take the same approach as Oswald Mosley to people disagreeing with you; "They disagree with us. That must mean we have had some effect.". If I campaigned for compulsory hare lips and cleft palates, I'm sure people would disagree with me. And I would sit back, saying "the cleft palate/hare lip dispute is going well". And when I lost, I would claim that it's due to the population not being interested enough in facial technicalities to take our views into accoutt.
So basically. The BBC news reporting french stuff. A source of anger. Only due to blind patriots. And I mean 'blind' in the metaphorical sense, so you can't use literal blind people to back up your case. Like Stuart off neighbours. He hates foreigners too.

I hope you're not accusing me of being racist. My original post and its sentiments stand. It is, of course, open to misinterpretation (as it has been already), but if you're choosing to read something into it that isn't there, well...

I don't think you are being racist, but I do think you are unaware of the ramifications this is going to have on the EU, and (as such) on the UK.
That's why we should give a toss on this side of the Channel.

Oh, I see. The wider issue. I was just commenting that a new French PM is hardly deserving of headline news. Nothing more, nothing less.
I am racist, I hate the french. and the Turks for that matter, although I award them the honour of a capital 'T'.
The fact that france, of all nations rejected the EU constitution is however, a long way from a non-newsworthy story.
Thank God they did say no. I say it _is_ newsworthy. Maybe not the specific bit about a new French PM, but the reasons
It will have a large impact on the future of any constitution, and on any possible referendum in the UK.
Damn. Too late on this one.
