WTF? $4500 for doing a software project?

Google must have more money than God!

"Upon successful approval of your application, you will receive $500 for startup costs."

Start up costs?

"...participants will also receive a t-shirt for taking part. We will need your size after your application is accepted."

Lazy scrounging student bums!

so that would be XXXL all round

i was quite startled by the $$ too -- is there some sort of limit on numbers? eg first past the post with a useful result, first application to start, that sort of thing?

I wonder if you have to pay the 500 back if you don't finish it? :0)

yep. if you don't eat the whole $500, you have to pay for it.
it's like one of those "if you finish the whole mega-steak, it's free" american restaurants.
only the other way round.
and with code.

which is a pity. i like steak. especially fully searchable steak. there's nothing worse than obfuscated steak
