Count is three buses, two tube stations so far. No body count.
The mobile networks are all down, and I can't get hold of Harriet or her brother (who is here for work experience).
They're on a bus somewhere.
I am not happy...
The networks are starting to come back up mate, get on a landline and call your mother.

Still having troble with Orange phones - last I know she was heading into Soho about an hour ago.
I think its Kings Cross, Russell Square and Liverpool Street, at around nine o'clock.

Another explosion has been reported but not confirmed near Liverpool Street a few minutes ago.
I would imagine there will be quite a few controlled explosions today.

Funny how there is so much being reported about the London bombings, but in Pakistan 3 trains have crashed killing about 120 people and I bet it gets mentioned on the news tonight and that will be the last we hear of it.
How much do you think Pakistan hear about UK train crashes?
Posted by
ellipse, around July 2005:
how many people in rawanda hear about UK train crashes?
oh ffs. And nobody over here heard about Rwanda, or Sierra Leone, or Sudan, or this Kenya thing going on at the moment.
Nobody here ever wrote or read anything about the Pakistan train crash. Or the Iranian earthquake, or the Turkish earthquake, or the explosion in North Korea that wiped out a whole village.
Someone told me something bad happened in Indonesia on boxing day, I never heard anything about it though, must just have been mentioned on that nights news and never mentioned again eh?

Call me perverse, if you like, but I have more interest in news about my own country than I do about others. I also have more interest in news about my region than my country, my city than my region, my town than my city, etc.
So my interest in the news is on a sort of sliding scale relating to how much it's likely to affect me directly. This is not to say that I have
no interest in news from around the world, it's just that I'm human and therefore have human frailties. I have only so much time in my life to devote to digesting news.
This is just as well, because there's just too much damn news around these days and I really couldn't assimilate it all. Actually, there's always been too much news, it's just that nowadays we can tap into news from around the globe very easily, whereas when I were nobbut a nipper, it was all in black-and-white and live news was really only available on TV from within the UK or via rather dodgy 'wireless' reports from far-flung parts of the empire. Visual news from outside arrived some time later in the form of a film report sent by post or courier.
Shit happens everywhere, everyday, and I realised long ago that there's bugger all I can do about most of it. Life is depressing enough without giving me more bad news from around the globe than I can digest. I am sorry to hear about the Indian train crash, but that was an accident, and accidents happen. The London bombings were perpetrated deliberately and there's a good chance that more will follow. We've already had terrorist bombings in Manchester in recent times and I'd really like to hope that it won't happen again, but realistically I have to accept that it may. Anything that can help me to be vigilant and keep myself, my friends, family and colleagues alive is of interest to me. You may think that's self-centred, but as I said, I'm only human and one of our basic instincts is self preservation.
Brock, was your toe stubbing incident on local or national news? If it was national, I'm afraid I missed it. And I'm in a different news region, so if it was only reported regionally I wouldn't have had the opportunity to see it.

They are flying the Dutch flag at half-mast across the road from here today.
here at work too, and two minutes silence at 13.00
We don't have a flag.
And also only remembered the silence thing at 12.15.
:/
I was working at the time, they announced it over the building tannoy though, but they didn't say when the end came so it ended up nobody said a word for about twenty minutes, it was bliss i tell you.
I heard on the news today that they are looking not only for anyone conected, but anyone who would have ENCOURAGED them to commit these terrorist actions.
I hope they go after the families of those responsible and bring them to justice. I feel that ANYONE who even
knows about the crimes prior to them being committed should be held
responsible and brought to
justice!
Posted by
WarHead, around July 2005:
Jeff, did you ever live in North Korea?
Um... yes. Go for the families.
Wow yeah, cos when a serial killer kills himself and cant be punished further, the parents and siblings are just as much to blame for the murders aren't they. Yeah they should all be hanged because of what their relative did.
That's justice
:/
hmm. pakistani people kill people on london trains. pakistani people kill people on pakistan trains.
hmm...
maybe pakistani people and trains just don't mix?
not that i'm trainist or anything.
but maybe we should just, you know, keep an eye out for suspicious looking trains. and, maybe, keep them in special compounds and houses, and maybe make them travel on their own special roads away from other vehicles. and force people to be carefully monitored and only allowed to meet trains in their special compounds if they get special permission from an official officer in a bullet-proof booth who has control over the special train-meeting chits. for the public safety. oh, please,
won't someone think of the children!
I think that if the families are too hard to go for, they should target innocent people living half way around the world. That'll show 'em!! Those families will 'fess up in no time.
