It's very clever. Although would be more amazing if it was done "by hand".
I assume they convert the film clip to a limited greyscale range then assign characters to grey tones with smaller characters ( ' ) being lighter and larger characrers ( R ) being darker shades.
Funky.
I have tried a program for linux called pbmtoascii but it would take a hell of a lot of work using that program.
By the way Gary, that was pretty cool.

See? I might lurk a lot and not post much, but when I do it's worth it. Quality not quantity. :P
Star Wars, in REAL ascii (connects to a vt100 term via telnet...)
telnet://towel.blinkenlights.nl
heh
cal's nifty auto-urling doan wurk on non http connections, apparently. can't think why -- they're so common!
click here for Star Wars in Telnet
ewww, that doesn't work either: com.iamcal.codeyniftiness scrambles the link
you're all just going to have to copypaste this into a new browser window or tab (and have a Helper App configured to handle telnet, which is predone for you in MacOSX as Terminal:
telnet://towel.blinkenlights.nl
'ken oath!
syl: try just copypasting that bolded bit into a new browser window. if all is configured correctly, you'll get some or other new program opening up to handle the connection. fear not-- no security risk.
