Yes, I know what they're doing, I have to clear out the office SPAM filter on a regular basis, but this is the first time I've seen one where they claim to have had a cheque returned. Makes a change, that's all.

I've read about this sort of spam. It's aimed to take vulnerable women for their hard earned divorce settlements and such.

Setting up an email address. I am now Arianna Forster. He a punky man, I a punky lady.

Dear Simon,

I'm extremely happy you saw my profile and am flattered you chose to respond. You make Senegal sound so serene and beautiful. I've lived in London all my life and rarely go anywhere truly spectacular, except for the changing of the penguins at the zoo. The changing really is a spectacle and is something I witness every year. Do you have penguins in Senegal? They are my favourite animal. They are so beautiful but its the metaphors they carry within their evolution that appeal to me most. I'd love to be a penguin. That way I could withstand my ex-husbands bitter-cold heart. The great amount of money I took him for in the settlement really didn't make the pain of his cheating go away... but it certainly helped, LOL. Don't misunderstand me, the money hasn't affected me at all. I, like the penguin, am permanently grounded.

Anyway. Enough about me. You're a hairdresser? Wow. I love having my hair played with and cut, as do penguins. Perhaps the hand of God really has intervened and brought us together.

Hope to talk further soon.

Love, your princess,

Arianna

Hello Arianna,
What a beautiful name you have got,it reminds me of something,a sweet childhood memory, how are you doing, so smooth to hear from you,i hope all is pretty moving well for you if so i seek your permission to extend to you once more my sincerest greetings.
Thank once more for giving it your time to respond to my mail, i work in a hairdressing salon,am fascinated to making women beautiful,i adore making women beautiful and thats exactly what am doing for a living , its strange.
We do have penguins in Senegal but i only see them on TV not physical so what do you enjoy most doing in your spare time?,when you are alone in your heart what do you think of?,tell me about those fascinating things in your life ,i would like to know more things about you. I wait for your mail am already dreaming to meet a woman with a romantic heart, till i heart from you,i wish you all the good things of life,God loves you and will always keep you safe and will always bless you with love.
With deep respect and admiration.
Simon.

Dear Simon,

Please feel free to extend me greetings of any kind, sincere or otherwise. The pleasure is all mine. I am in good health, thank you for asking. I've recently came out of hospital following a breast augmentation and tummy tuck. I look fantastic now.
I dont see why making women beautiful is strange. Although I did have a cousin who when he told his father he was going to become a hairdresser he beat him to within an inch of his life. That was in his drinking days, before he found God and became a priest. I dont know what happened to my cousin though, he ran away never to return. It's quite a sad tale when you look at it from that point of view. That's why I dont. I just think, "Uncle Jimmy is a priest, good for him!"

I cant believe you havent seen a penguin in real life. They are so glorious and the TV doesnt do them any justice. They're so gentle and cuddly. I did see a video of one penguin tripping up another one but I think it was fake; penguins dont have a harmful bone in their body. Again, why I like to think of myself like one. If you are ever in London I will show you the penguins. Thats a promise. Although I'll warn you in advance that we cant go into the reptile house. I'm banned.

I enjoy mostly reading. Have you read the Da Vinci Code? I haven't. I bought a copy and burned it. Looked like a good book though.

Ah, what is in my heart? That is what I am trying to find. There's a longing. A longing for company. I want to find the right man to fill that void. As I am getting older the void is getting larger and not so easy to fill. Over the past few years I've tried filling my void with larger and larger things but nothing has quite fit. I feel I need it full of hot romantic goo and slush. My ex-husband filled my void with flowers. His one redeeming feature was that he new what flowers filled my void.

You sound like a romantic man. Do you enjoy long walks along the beach? Lutes, harps and poetry? I love poetry. Here's one from Jacob Miller that I think has enourmous relevancy:

The world collapsed as I held your hand
Just you an I on the desert sand
What are we doing, I enquired
You just stood while I perspired

I look forward to hearing from you. I feel a strange beat in my heart when I see your name in my inbox. Until then, may good keep you safe my sake.

Your goodtime gal,

Arianna

is this REAL??! this is actually guys trolling for girls for good times and cash??
Posted by Sul_DUPE1, around 8th June 2006:

Yeah. I read an article following a teenager that does it all day. Sits in a internet cafe, harvests email addresses and credit card numbers, sends out scams, chats up ladies trying to get money out of them. Does it for higher bosses but makes a good cut.

Cant find the article now though. Shame, it was a good read.

His thoughts were that if you are stupid enough to fall for it then you deserve to be robbed - he kind of has a point.
Posted by Saltation_DUPE1, around 8th June 2006:

yeah i read a news article where the journo spent ages in africa trawling around the guys doing this stuff. and they all said exactly the same thing: if you trust us, you deserve everything we do to you. [also: if you are rich, it is our right to try to take it]

and of course, you can see the economic consequences of entire societies who cannot trust any other member in that society. vastly successful due to the tremendous ability to co-ordinate economically-useful mass activity.

oh, no, wait, i may have that the wrong way round...

Hello Arianna,
How are you doing,it so nice to hear from you thanks for your pretty mail, how is life hope you in a bubbling form, cause you got lot of those compliment, probably because you in form. I find happiness when reading your mail, i would mind to ask you to send me your picture and telephone number, we might need a talk, let say in my spare time, i do lot of interesting things to say playing football, listening to music.
Sometimes in our lives we tend to dream, maybe i should say am dreaming, still don't know what am dreaming about until it comes out of my dream and make it true, who know what might be going on in a heart of a man when he is engaged in trying to make a woman happy, i think i could add morre happiness to your name, something reminds me of my childhood, as a little boy i could still picture myself running arround the flower garden i think you could know what i might be running after in a beautiful flower garden.

Mac419!
Nigerian 419 scam moves to Scotland

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Sport needs safe place to keep $40m

A well established email scam that asks people to look after funds for a Nigerian government official has spawned a copycat message from sources closer to home.

The email pretends to be from Patricia Ferguson, the Scottish Minister for Culture, Tourism and Sport, and asks people to help move $40m (£21.6m) for a share of the cash.

*i* never voted for her, and i certainly won't now!
